Trivial but it show's how they have gone from a solid base of "Global Warming is Real! Science says so!" to "The earth is flat! Science can't prove it!"

I'm not sure it is so much towards the education system that things like flat earthers are a resulting problem of, but the need for the general populace to feel special over everyone else.
Much like the increasing categorizing of "victim" groups gives the "victim" "power" over another group, the people who believe the many conspiracy theories get to feel superior to the ones who don't, so they ignore basic ideas in favor of their more complex and easily disproveable conspiracies.
