The information gleaned from the article indicates the biggest cause of erosion is not climate change but changing the course of the river. Changing its course does provide better outcome for more people but the argument should not be for the greater good of the greater number any more than it should be made for the greater good for the fewer. Climate does change to great extents for long periods of time. 10,000 years ago there was an ice age that began to come to an end. The earth was much colder. There were ice sheets a mile thick covering New York and many parts of what is now the upper USA. The seas were much lower because so much water was trapped in ice that did not melt. Many of the environments that exist today did not exist then.
Man's best tool for survival is still how can he control his environment and not destroy what he depends on. If humans are the cause of environmental decay we need to find out what they were doing 10,000 years ago when the ice age began to change and punish those people.

I can’t find it now, but I destinctly remember NatGeo, Nova, and the army Corps of engineers all stated quite clearly, the delta of the Mississippi River is disappearing because of the levies and all the channel dredging they have done. The delta, like all river deltas, require the flood cycle to refresh the marshes. I’m not a believer in climate change/warming/cooling so I’m not believing this is from man effecting the global climate. However, I DO believe we caused this by trying to lock the river into known channels

More facts..........."the construction added to the erosion of the island"
Until the “Island Road” was built in 1953, the only sure method of transportation to and from the Island was by boat. Previously, there had been a wagon path along a narrow ridge going to Point Farm and Bayou Terrebonne, but it was impassable at times of high water, which came in when the wind blew from the south or southeast.

In 1953, a road connecting Isle de Jean Charles to Pointe-aux-Chene was built through the marshland. For several decades, the marshland has eroded and turned into the open water, leaving the road vulnerable to erosion and flooding. Tribal elders today believe that the location of the road was not only an unwise one but the construction has added to erosion of the Island. After years of advocating that the road be repaired and built higher, the parish finally completed a $6.24 million restoration and elevation of the road in June 2011. However we were informed at this time that it would be the last time they fix the road, and now just six years after this victory, the road floods regularly during tropical storm systems, high tides, and even just on days with a strong southern wind. When the road is flooded, we worry that elders who live on the Island will be unable to get medical services they need when an ambulance is unable to pass.

Tidal forces cause a natural erosion of low lying islands and beaches. Prior to the construction of levees by the Corps of Engineers, sediment flows restored the island soil that was periodically eroded. Now, no sediment restoration, erosion takes over. Nothing to do with rising sea levels, as noted in the story, but the headline calls the people leaving as "climate change refugees."

Unlike climate change, in this case it is man-made devices that have interfered with the natural sediment restoration. That's the same man-made devices that have prevented annual flooding of hundreds of thousands of acres of land along the Mississippi River saving billions in damages for thousands of land owners.

Sorry, I didn't read the whole thing. Lack of time allowed on this machine in the library. But still, after
I read some of it, I scrolled down to the end. I did not see anything there to prove that any of that soil erosion was caused by human activity.

With all of the matters of consequence going on in the world, why spend time on something whose premise starts off incorrect?

Because the very idea of the abstract theory collectivists call, “climate change” is one of their main justifications for unlimited human sacrifices.

Their false premises need to be exposed.

True. But a rational argument supported by facwill fall upon deaf ears with these folks. Unless it's the undecideds you wish to get to your wasting your time. Climate change (formerly global warming) has the status of a religion among these folks. However, it is certainly your right to correct them if you want to. and good luck to you.

Oh my god! People will needed to be evacuating their islands because of global wa...I mean, climate change. The first evacuation is happening soon! The world is doomed!!! EPA SAVE US!

          (Proper response)

Ask not whar the EPA can do for you, ask what the you can do for the EPA. I think you're going to irritate lots of people and may have to change from SOLVER to SALVER,
            Ad astra per aspera.
