"John Brennan and James Clapper were doing whatever the hell they wanted, without any judicial warrants, and I think there were numerous people in the Obama administration who were using intelligence — one, to try to bring Trump down; but two, also, they were using it for political purposes," he said. "And this is very, very worrisome." Rand Paul

That's why they don't use the power they have. They're in it for themselves.

Isaac Asimov also had a character in the Foundation series called "The Mule". That character, to me, is Trump, someone who was not predicted. Agree with you, just sit back and watch...the fun.

i think Jefferson made a grave mistake in starting the University of Virginia, because it is a government school. He said he had sworn "eternal hostility to every form of tyranny over the mind of man." Apparently he did not realize that, in starting UVA, he was promoting the same thing.

Somebody was in the Richmond Library the other Tuesday. She had written a book, Lower Ed, about "for-profit" schools and saying they cheat students. I believe that all right, but I think public schools are even worse. And I said to her and everybody else listening that I thought public schools should be abolished, except for military technical training and police academies, and that it would be better if employers simply took apprentices and trained their own. And I also proposed starting a private "Better Business Bureau' for education, to check up on schools.

So true. Up in Canada many you are not allowed to "import" more than a small amount of alcohol or tobacco from other provinces if any. The laws are only getting tighter. Don't get me going on taxes and the use of our tax dollars. It is right out of "Atlas Shrugged."

When plunder becomes a way of life for a group of men in a society, over the course of time they create for themselves a legal system that authorizes it and a moral code that glorifies it. BASTIAT

No idea of your age. I disagree on every point you stated in this particular post.
I think con-gress critters know exactly the crimes they are committing, that they do it with purpose, and that those actions change our reality and destroy our liberty. They affect us enormously and we must act to stop them.

Obama and his hired help misused their power on an almost daily bais, band taxpayer dollars. Yes, he spied on Trump, he initiated the first FISA request, which was denied, as it stated Trump as target. how many foreign elections did he send people to influence? He used the office as his personal toy chest, with total disregard for the people footing the cost, black or white, no matter. Then he let in Soros, who is one of the major manipulators of people internationally, and a Fascist Hitler helper. Pelosi is in the same clique. They allow Big Pharma to keep cures for diseases from getting to the market, as treatment is more profitable. They use global warming, knwoing full well it does not exist, but it allows for more control of people. Deep State is real and rotten to the core.

maybe our difference in age is why i look at their actions as non-sense. all of the subjects you reference don't effect in reality. they in dc are out to get each other.
so just get up each morning and concentrate on doing with your life what you want to do.

Permanent government bureaucracy is real and dangerous... Deep State is just one particularly nasty segment of it.

Can't stand that, puzzlelady. Have to talk about it, and try to shed light on it, even if I can't perceive any change that results from my actions.

The Deep State is deep, and deeper than we can know. It is very old, and impregnable. It is not even clear whether they are the good or bad guys. How do we even define what is bad? How do we know what ideas they have planted in us, even our ideas about them? Are they always successful? If their goal is social engineering of the whole human race, rather than achieving only their own self-interest, surely they have failed miserably many times throughout history. Two steps forward, one step back. How many individuals are there who pull the strings, ever invisible and unknown? Enough to be a critical mass. Like a black hole that holds and moves a galaxy. they pull all human endeavors into their orbit. Isaac Asimov's science fiction classic "Foundation" had a similar notion. So just sit back and watch.

Someone once floated the idea of randomly picking someone out of a phonebook for jobs like local city council, etc. It seems like it may be at least as good a system as the corrupt one we have now...

Oversight committees of elected officials is meaningless if it is expected it will provide protection of citizens against an over zealous state. Committee: "What are you doing?"
    Bureaucracy: "Nothing."
Committee: "Can we have a cut?"
    Bureaucracy: "Sure."
The only way to ensure behavior that does not encroach on any freedom is to not have any 'authorized' department that can take it away. Don't try to fix the Department of Education or give it direction by appointing a 'conservative' administrator. Eliminate it.

What we have is an uncontrolled, unelected bureaucracy, with not just survival, but utter, selfish self interest as their driving motivation. Like any corrupt entity, they engage in paranoid recognition that they would hang anyone else exercising power in the manner they do, and set about to destroy anyone who might hold them accountable.

The team of corrupt entities include members of the legal profession, who being aware of how far activist judges will bend the statutes in their favor, throw all legal principles out the window in pursuit of their political opposition. This isn't a swamp, but a sewer that needs serious cleaning.

When you say to yourself, "This doesn't make any sense, unless....."then you know you've just bumped up against what Rand Paul describes as the "deep state" the people who really run things or cause them to run. The first real glitch in their plans was putting Hillary up for president. The thing they failed to take into account is that they bought into their own propaganda. She is not the smartest of woman, sly, yes, smart, no. She's dumb as a box of rocks. Everything she's tried has failed. She doesn't know how to implement. She lies even when she doesn't need to. The election was pre-won, bought and paid for. She only lost through her own stupid actions. If it hadn't been for slick Willy, she'd currently be abscounding with the PTA funds and safely put away in jail where she will be preyed upon instead of preying on others. When Hillary went into self-destruct mode, Trump immediately saw the chink in the armor and set about spreading it open. He acted exactly opposed to her presentations, and the people, Suffering from the aridity of business as usual lapped up the Trumpisms like water from a mountain spring. But Trump is not deep state. They hate him more than Boubonic plague. Unfortunately he is too little too late. We've handed the USA over to the enemy many years ago in the '30's.

That's where freedom can be recovered. We are the only ones who can take the steps needed to regain our freedom. We just have to find the courage and to help others find it, too.
