Obama DOJ Ordered 500,000 Fugitives Deleted From Background Check Database

Did the Obama admin do this to sabotage Trump's administration and to increase the odds that gun violence by those who were previously barred from buying weapons would incite demo-looters in con-gress to demand more gun control?

    I don't think there was malice intended, but simple stupidity. A government lawyer (not identified) had assumed the NICS database was only for persons who fell under the FBI's jurisdiction, e.g. felons who had committed federal crimes or had fled across state lines, and told the President that he was required to remove names that didn't fall under those categories. I don't think he put much thought into his decision to order the FBI to remove those names.

      Respectfully, I disagree. Given the other revelations we've had regarding the bureaucracies under Obama, I can't grant them that kind of leniency. This was an overt decision made by political actors.

        You may be right about the intent, but I still consider this a stupid move, rather than a clever one. With the scrutiny now being applied to the NICS database and how to improve it, this was bound to show up, with Obama's fingerprints all over it. It gives Trump the opportunity to be shown as someone with more character and intelligence for focusing on correcting the background check system (not that the MSM will give him the credit, or highlight the Obama "error").

          But part of the whole scheme was to make it so that this would never come to light. If Hillary had been elected instead of Trump, no one would be hearing about this because the very players who perpetrated this would still be in power. Even now the MSM is trying to brush it under the rug by diverting to Mueller's fake investigation or the porn star.

    Not any different than the data available on Cruz, that may have prevented the Parkland shooting that was not acted upon.
