Yeah, one of the sites said the reason for the odd orbital inclination of the International Space Station was due to Baikonur being so far north.

Brownsville is about as far south as you can get in the continental U.S. Hawaii is just better than Brownsville at 21 N.

Texas is probably a better choice than Hawaii for logistical reasons. We don't own any dirt closer to the equator.

Lastly the Russians are so ticked off at us right now, they will probably ban Americans from getting anywhere near a Soyuz capsule.

Too bad Obama didn't listen and keep the shuttles out of mothballs for a few more years until we had something else.

Proves my point. Russians are stupid. They also land on land.

Had a former professor of mine who ran the cosmodrome. Had a chance to meet him at a football game after he returned. His comment was that he prays every time an American boards a Soyuz rocket.

Too bad about Oklahoma. Maybe its the name.

I mean can you imagine the headlines if there was an accident...

    "Rocket Explodes -- Burns Flat"

... I might think the place was leveled.

I haven't kept up with Musk's politics. I just keep hearing about space-x making real progress. With his electric car company though, I don't doubt that he might cozy up to the green contingent in D.C. Your probably right.

He must not be that great of a crony though, I heard they were suing the D.O.D. cause they wouldn't let newbie Space-x bid on some launch contracts.
