And this is the future of personal safety if we allow the 2nd Amendment to be curtailed. They day I lay down my arms and rely on anyone to protect me.....

    Put the gun down? This seems like a case of the operator foolishly commenting on a situation she had no knowledge of. Your suggesting this might be somehow related to political opposition to guns, and I think so too.

    I heard another 911 call in which the would-be victim asked the operator if she should shoot the intruder. The operator said "I can't comment. Do what you think is right to protect yourself." That's the correct response IMHO b/c the operator cannot understand the unfolding situation as well as someone in it.

    I am curious as to weather the 911 operator was following protocol. If so they will have a lawsuit on their hands eventually and a wrongful death charge.

      If the woman had followed the advice to put down the gun and been killed, I wonder if her estate could have sued b/c she acted on bad advice.

        If it is standard procedure to give that advise then they will face that situation at some point. Why not tell her to keep the gun and lock herself in a room and wait for he police???

    The 911 operator was probably thinking of when the cops got there... not wanting gramma to get shot for brandishing, and not wanting her to shoot the cops by not looking to her backstop.
