Obama's official portrait unveiled.

As an Artist I find this choice to be more of a middle finger to reason and race relations than to recognize someone's talent.
The unveiling of former President Barack Obama’s official portrait on 12 February 2018 also introduced many Americans to artist Kehinde Wiley for the first time as well, as opening the door to late-breaking controversy over some of Wiley’s earlier work.

Wiley, who has described his own visual style as “bombastic, syrupy, and garish,” is celebrated in the contemporary art world for his large-scale portraits of black and brown men and women striking heroic poses modeled on those of aristocrats in classic European paintings.
Two celebrated paintings show a black woman holding a severed white woman's head
“It’s sort of a play on the ‘kill whitey’ thing,” Wiley said in a 2012 interview with New York Magazine.

Me dino was about 14 when I purchased a paperback called "Mythology" by Edith Hamilton, which keeps getting republished.

Think it likely I knew more about Greek, Roman and Norse mythology (due to that book) than any other kid in Dothan, Alabama.
Found it frustrating to talk about the ancient gods even when astronomy was the subject. There was always someone who'd ask, "You don't believe in that stuff, do you?"
I'd say no but that mythology has a lot of great stories.
Noses would be still be raised and I began to keep the knowledge to myself.

YOOR a nus pronunciation may be necessary to avoid embarrassment; say "YOOR a nus" , not "your anus" or "urine us".

Uranus is the ancient Greek deity of the Heavens, the earliest supreme god. Uranus was the son and mate of Gaia the father of Cronus (Saturn) and of the Cyclopes and Titans (predecessors of the Olympian gods).

Uranus, the first planet discovered in modern times, was discovered by William Herschel while systematically searching the sky with his telescope on March 13, 1781. It had actually been seen many times before but ignored as simply another star (the earliest recorded sighting was in 1690 when John Flamsteed cataloged it as 34 Tauri). Herschel named it "the Georgium Sidus" (the Georgian Planet) in honor of his patron, the infamous (to Americans) King George III of England; others called it "Herschel". The name "Uranus" was first proposed by Bode in conformity with the other planetary names from classical mythology but didn't come into common use until 1850.

That was during the Assic Age when Neanderthals thought it was funny to call Uranus "Your Anus," repeating that version and asking "Get it?" over and over again as did a coworker, who the prison fired for not calling in sick (in the head) as he chased a stripper girlfriend he had proposed to all the way to Las Vegas, kicking down her door to be charged with burglary.
That would be called breaking and entering here in Alabama but maybe he also snatched back an engagement ring. I dunno.
Some people you're just glad to see go away, though. Bye, bye!

During the late 60s when me dino was an art student for a little while, I cooked up the term "artsy fartsy" to describe certain attempts at art such as Wiley's silly trash..
Years later I heard an actor say "artsy fartsy" in some minor movie and wondered if there was a connection to me through my brother Steve, who was a student and then an employee at Southern Cal where making movies is taught.

Can it look any less American, any less presidential or less culturally divisive? The tapestry hanging between the repulsive portraits in the library in no way represents the United States or his role as president. This "concept" combined with his authorizing them to be publicly placed on display in the library only underscores that he was never our president, never even attempted to lead according to his oath, and did nothing except serve to propagate is unAmerican ogenda.

The "art" or true division, hatred and colossal stupidity, not to mention...antilectual blindness.

    Truly the darkest of times...
