12,800 Years Ago, Earth Was Struck by a Disintegrating Comet, Setting Off Global Firestorms

Hmm, they almost have it right, but at least they are not calling people who had evidence of the comet impact 10-20 years ago "insane lunatics" (or along those lines) like they did.

I am not sure how all of this gets accepted as history or at least who gets credit for the rediscovery. The Scablands, the Great Lakes , the Finger lakes, the Grand Canyon are geographical features shaped by this event. This study to me is additional evidence or collaborating to Firestone's et al paper in 2007.

Well, that WAS my point, they keep producing papers that announce new "decisions" of things people have know fir 80 years or more, but were ridiculed, instead of studied.

I once listened to this audio book https://www.googleadservices.com/page... and was surprised at how many inventions /discoveries were stolen or cheated for credit. Peoples lives were actually ruined so as to lose the value of their creation through theft.
I would like to see a course taken titled
"Don't keep making the same mistakes"
The typical, protect a set fixed narrative at all costs. Ridiculing an objective view point is simply stifling reason.
Including the ignoring of evidence it does not advance knowledge and it is repeated over and over.
The compartmentalized often are ill equipped to look at the big picture.

It would be nice if the writer decided if it was a comet or a meteor.
"EARTH WAS STRUCK BY A DISINTEGRATING COMET"
"According to this study, the remnants of the meteor which struck Earth still persist within our Solar System today."

It is thought the bombardment came from the Swift -Tuttle comet. The Perseids are prolific meteor showers associated with the comet Swift–Tuttle. The Perseids are so called because the point from which they appear to hail lies in the constellation Perseus. Wikipedia Meteoroid: A small rocky or metal object, usually between the size of a grain of sand or a boulder, that orbits the sun. It originates from a comet or asteroid. Meteor: A meteoroid that enters the earth's atmosphere and vaporizes. ... Historically, objects larger than 10 meters across have been called asteroids.Mar 10, 2013

I think I saw some noise that some people were predicitng a big strike hiding in the remains of Swift Tuttle, and that we would get hit in the very near future, but no one ever showed any proof.

Bullshit! A comet 100km across would have been a planet sterilizer! The asteroid that hit 65 million years ago was only 10-15 km in diameter. A 100km object would still have one side in space while the 'bottom' is smashing into the ground, no time for it to breakup in the atmosphere.

There is that, but cosidering this idea was first proposed and proved 20 years ago and considered "crackpot", the fact the mainstream is now catching up and thinking it is their own original thought, is telling, the fact they went a little off the rails with size may be an article issue, or someone got way over eager. The theory (proven with hndreds of samples across North America, europe and the Middle East), called for a 10-20KM comet to have broken up on entry, the largest pieces impacting the NA Ice sheet in Canada in several spots, the rapid melt causing the scablands and Columbia Gorge, as well as the east coast deluge and was also responsible for the whole flood myth, because of tsunamis caused by impacts all over of large pieces. It would have cause enough dust, plus the fresh water infusion, that caused the Younger Dryas to plod on another 2000 years, as well as kill off several civilizations, and the melt cause water levels to rise worldwide, "sinking" the civilizations they find today, such as the ones of Okinawa.

Where exactly on the globe was the epicenter of the impact that then spread to burn 10% of the land surface? How much of it fell into the oceans that put out the fire?

See above for the basic outline, the pieces breaking off may have been a mix of ice and rock, making it entirely possible that fires started in some parts of the world, and there was an arc of impacts from North America to the Middle East.

Ignatius Donnely of Atlantis: the Antediluvian Continent also had a book Ragnarok: the Age of Fire and Ice which postulated the cause of the Great Chicago Fire and the Great Conflagration up and down the West side of Lake Michigan, was caused by Earth passing thru the path of Biela's comet which was in a roughly 6 year orbit and broke apart the last time it came near earth. That event was October 8 to October 10 of 1871.

I traveled to Peshtigo which had all burnt but a church. Many interesting items in the account of the Peshtigo Fire by the priest. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00U3O0IQY/...

There's so much to learn of earth's climate that the Man-made climate change advocates seem like kindergarten teachers speaking to slow children.

every thing these days according to "science" can be explained away with the word "HICCUP"! to many people claiming to be scientists so they need not work and be productive, kind of like politicians!!!

I believe wiggys is referencing the tendancy for mainstream science to just sort of make up an idea, and poo poo the ones they don't, even if the facts can be had to support them, kinda like politicians do, with making up a term to castigate those that do not sign up for the latest fantasies.
