Is this a form of non-objectivist shrugging?

On a recent trip, Mr. and Mrs. Fivedollargold stopped to visit a monastery in Ferdinand, Indiana. Whilst at the gift shop, Mrs. $5Au asked a kindly old nun, "Where do you live?" She replied, of course, "Here." Then she added, "for 54 years." Mortified, Mr. $5Au shooed the Mrs. out before she asked anymore embarrassing questions. (Later she asked me, "What sort of wage do the nuns get?" Ugh.) At any rate, it occurs to Mr. $5Au that these nuns might be engaging in a type of shrugging--obviously, one not consistent with objectivism in the main, but nevertheless self-supporting and non-contributing to the Federal government. What do you think?

    I've considered in the past becoming a monk. But I couldn't decide between Jesuit or Benedictine. Then I realized that I'm not Catholic and dropped the whole idea... :)

    Those who seek monastic life are self-consistent to their values and not feeding the government leviathan. A very reasonable argument can be made that they are misguided, but life in a physical Atlantis would have much in common with monastic life. Are you ready for that level of commitment?
