If they fall for this, Trump and his gang may as well pack up and go home, defeated. This is such a bait and switch, it isn't funny. Instead of his wall he gets a "we'll look at it" and the Dumbocraps get DACA and will crow forever about how they beat Trump. Don't give in to it.

    This was fake news. All Schumer got was a promise from McConnell that he would promote working on a bipartisan solution to the DACA problem. The extreme progressive wing of the party is cursing Schumer for caving.

      Doc, I think it was accurate when posted, as there were a couple versions of what was being offered and by whom. With both Trump and Schumer, the changes are fast and furious, and they need to stop grandstanding and do the smoky back room thing and shut up until they have something they think will work and then float it. I believe Trump made the offer Friday, and Schumer offered the wall (sort of) and then they both changed the story by Sunday.

    I am 100% against illegal immigration or any form of mass amnesty. Even so, I think any child brought by their family that has reached the age of 18, after having grown up more than half their life in the US with a clean criminal record and is able to support themselves should be afforded an opportunity to stay as a citizen. I suggest 18 months to apply and pass whatever necessary measure is required to achieve citizenship, if citizenship is not achieved deportation occurs without appeal. Further, anyone in this nation below the age of 18 is to be deported with their parents\guardian and anyone with a criminal record or has been in this country less than 1/2 their life time get deported without discussion or exception.

    the pandering by both sides in Congress and Trump attempting to use it as bargaining chip is appalling.

      Yeah, but here is a thought. Legal Resident, NEVER allowed to be a Citizen, Vote, or use Chain Migration.

      And also, Democrats LOVE Taxes. How about a nice $10,000/person tax to be levied upon application! The DNC Can pay for this.

      old and has been here only 44 years?
      I do think there should be some provision for those who were brought here as children, grew up here, think of themselves as Americans, and are law-abiding (discounting, of course, the illegality of their having been brought here); perhaps they should be made to exit, stay away a brief time (like maybe 6 months), then allowed to re-enter (after some examination, as is normally done on foreigners), and then allowed to start over and work their way into citizenship, being eligible after 5 years.--But perhaps this should be only a one-time thing.

        If they are no longer minors and they've known no other place (where more than 1/2 their life comes in) then they should be affording a path without having to leave. We, via tax dollars, have unknowingly developed these people to be productive citizens and should get a return for our investment.

        For the 90 year old's scenario, he had 46 adult years to get his citizenship squared away, 46 years in some very favorable social environments. He knew and did nothing to become legal. Adios.

        One-time...I will not support another one-time solution. Reagan sold that to us and the politicians from that moment forward did nothing to ensure "one-time", they did quite the opposite.

        I think AJ has the right line, once they reach majority age, and they are successful, provision needs to be made to make them legal residents with a requirement to obtain citizenship within 1 year or go. Then it is up to them, as we did not have a say in it, the Obamanation and Dumbocraps made this mess, and now want us to to just pony up so they get their 700K voters.

          I think I understand the Democrats' scheme. But that can be defeated, if patriotic Americans go about it the right way. Private associations can set up free or discount classes to teach the foreigners about citizenship, the true Constitutional principles, and thus forestall the Democrats' plan. (Of course, if they have already been here a long time, they might not choose to go to the classes. But in the case of more recent arrivals, it could work).

            That is an option, but you also have to be able to teach in spanish as a lot of them refuse to learn english.

              There are plenty of Americans who could teach it in Spanish. But from what I have seen from such foreigners as I have met, they don't particularly want to speak their own language with an American (at least not this American), they want to speak in English, and I believe they would be eager to learn what is necessary in order to succeed in this country.

      AJ, they are ALL using this as a political piece of propaganda. Dumbocraps only care because they see 700K voters, Republicans just either want converts or make them go away. No one is looking for a fair answer, or one that will work. Dumbocraps want all or nothing, and are using the shutdown as their nuclear option.

    Also, I love how the story completely ignores that the proposal was funding+CHIPS and the dems are talking about blocking it. Where's Jimmy Kimmel now? WTF.

      You never hear what any of the real proposals are, that was a red herring deal, no one seemed to care about. What did CHIPS have to do wit DACA and then the budget? They are all being twisted for one purpose: make the other guy look bad.

    The Dems are risking a big backlash at the polls by forcing a government shutdown over immigration policy. It will play well with their "progressive" wing but not with mainstream voters who are inconvenienced by the shutdown.

    Trump is already making political points by framing the issue as illegal immigration vs. border security and support for our military.

      I thought the same. Their voters that want that are in the bag anyway for a democrat candidate. I couldn’t figure out why they would so obviously alienate the “citizenry” over illegal immigration. They need to and rightfully should take a hell of a body blow on Election Day.
