Israel is a real sleeper in technology. Makes a sham out of the arab countries that want simply to destroy israel. Maybe they should up their game instead of trying to tear down people who are productive. Take away the oil, and arab countries would descent into the category of "sh%$ hole " countries pretty fast.

Wait and see. First, my fault: I was mislead by the headline here. "... converts sun rays into AC" of course now that I read the articles "air conditioning" not "alternating current."

Second, although the pictures widely reproduced show a purple roof, this article from the Canadian Friends of Hebrew University says that the paint only comes in light blue. The company's own website -- http://solcold.com -- does not say that.

    http://www.cfhu.org/news/the-coolest-...

The citation here from Independent Journal Review makes a curious claim via a quote:
SolCold co-founder Gadi Grottas told Israel21c he is not concerned about the new technology being stolen, basically because it’s too complex for most people to understand:

“We are not afraid someone will copy us because the technology is very complicated and not familiar to too many people. We gathered a unique combination of knowledge in the worlds of thermodynamics, nanotechnology, and quantum physics and have been working on it for the past four years. We have also registered a PCT patent, which is pending before being published.”

Famous last words... Aside from the hubris, once the patent is published, the process will be known.

New Scientist ... Green Matters ... lots of Internet echoes on this.
And... if this were an article on Global Warming from New Scientist we would be condemning modern science as looter bankster fraud. But the endorsement from New Scientist supports something we are predisposed to. (BTW the illustration in New Scientist is of a red roof. We have yet to see a real application.)

The invention could be real. It could really be more than even the inventor expects. (New Scientist pointed to applications in outer space.). I am just willing to wait and see.

Sounds great, now, invent something that will HEAT my house...AC...on the East Coast, in the Woods near the shore...is the least of my problems and a problem I may not have to worry about for the rest of my life during the Grand Solar Minimum.

The other problem I see is most houses in America can't be "Painted"...as in vinyl siding.

Great for stucco houses you usually find in warm climates...but even in deep Florida, this winter got into the 30's and the middle eastern countries, in the deserts?...gona be more cold than warm...not to mention...it gets cold at night.

Still, it's an amazing invention that might have a limited future right now...but in 40K years when we are in a much closer, more circular, orbit around our sun...it will really take off.

I am still waiting to see what happens to their work on a "plain water" batteryed electric car".

I'm in Arizona. My house us block and wood, painted. While I/we may be in the minorityin the US, something like this will save me approximately $200/no in the summer.

That would be a nice monthly savings? Adobe style with thick clay or mud walls was an excellent dual purpose material cool in the day and warm in the evening for desert climates. Figured out hundreds of years ago.

Awesome,..would be important to use in Vegas Too! Even though, the majority of the world could not use this product...there is more than enough demand to make it profitable.

I was thinking, they should make a paint or siding that could do both, cool itself and warm it self...based upon the temperature it is exposed to.
I know they have been trying to do that with clothing.

Insulation, or lack of it, is the biggest problem. In modern buildings the windows and doors are the worst offenders. Insulate your windows (double glazing is not effective enough) and add a heavily insulated entryway with an interior door to control loss of heat from opening the door.
Prevent heat losses instead of burning more gas or electricity.
America could cut energy use by 30-40% by upgrading insulation on existing housing. Instead government wastes our money on solar scams and building $x billion new sports stadiums.

I built my house with 2x8's, triple glazed windows with argon gas inbetween. They worked well for about 10 years but now are not as good but still better than single glazed windows. Even the fiberglass insulation has shrunk a bit too!

I would build my next house with lower ceilings with 2x12 construction. Insulation? I have no clue. There seems to be draw backs to each choice.

No expletive is powerful enough to suit this revelation. The world's news organizations should be front paging this fantastic breakthrough instead of the nonsensical political issues occupying their pages today. Except in a forum such as this, you'll never find a mention of it anywhere. What does this say about humanity, and it's inrterests and priorities.
We often talk about Aliens observing us. If they are peaceful and rational, and we always can assume they are, they probably admire our scientific speed and progress and wonder at our infantile development as a race.

The problem here is that current houses are designed to stop heat, or cold transfer from going through the walls. Houses would have to be significantly redesigned to take advantage of this. The only way I can see this working is if you made the southern exposure of the house glass and painted all the glass with this.

So, less expensive materials (less tech engineered) can be used with this paint coating to provide the same end result? Perhaps a less expensive home tot he consumer?

In Az many homes are this coated chicken wire crap that, once cracked, gets ugly fast. My home is a combination of slump block and wood, either would benefit from this type of coating since I live in a desert environment and its fairly warm all year round (and super hot 6 months out of the year). Something like this, and I have ample insulation in my attic and the slump block walls do a very good job insulating naturally, would still result in considerable savings for me (about $1K in 6 months)

I hope it comes to market. I only just finished painting my home recently. I'd give this paint it a go.

Sounds like it may work for you, but the application would be limited. New construction would work, but retrofits would be a challenge. You could actually put collectors on the roof like solar panels and box in the back and have the cold air "Fall" in to ducts in the house.

Reality check - watch for the Emperor’s new clothes! Wishful thinking aside, this is nothing more than a PowerPoint ad, hopefully (for them), resulting in an investor. Propably a government investor who can afford to invest your money on a great sounding pipe dream. I have seen fake science like this before. The scammer would actually convince a non-technical person of their wonder technology and this totally duped fellow may actually appear believe, because he actually believes. But it’s still a fake.

This reminds me of the micro-encapsulation technology application where paint would repaint itself in terms of delayed (over years + decades) breakdown via sunlight of paint-filled capsules.
