Ind. hospital fires 8 workers who refused flu shot

I'm one of those who refuses to get a flu shot, even though 99% of my coworkers sign up for them because the school brings them in for "free". My sister, who is a nurse, also refuses to get the flu shots that the hospitals demands she get...so she and another nurse just say they gave them to each other so they don't get fired. (RIDICULOUS!) (That hospital has since gone belly up and they've all been fired anyway, but I don't understand how an employer or government can demand you get a shot of ANY kind. "Keep your hands off my body" to coin a phrase.)

There was a NYTimes article that quoted an infectuous disease expert regarding the study I posted below. Here's the quote:
“We have overpromoted and overhyped this vaccine,” said Michael T. Osterholm, director of the Center for Infectious Disease Research and Policy, as well as its Center of Excellence for Influenza Research and Surveillance. “It does not protect as promoted. It’s all a sales job: it’s all public relations.”

States laws require vaccinations in order to attend school, work in health care settings, etc. My guess is that the flu shot was something the hospital required on its own. Given the danger to their patients from a flu outbreak, I tend to side with the hospital on this one. If you don't want the shot you can quit. The swine flu was a case in which federal blockheads panicked, for no good reason, and rushed a vaccine into production that hadn't been properly tested. This resulted in permanent neurological damage in some people who got the shot. I know someone affected in this manner. With current flu vaccines, although not always effective due to mutating flu strains, their safety is very good. I've gotten them the last few years and had no ill effects other than a sore arm for a couple of days. And I did not get the flu despite coming into contact with a few hundred people daily at work.

My doctor asked told me to get a flu shot. I asked him if he got a flu shot. He said yes. I asked him if he had a flu shot within the last two years; He didn't answer. I refused.

    "and out of my pocket..."
My whole family are doctors. Some at Mayo. here's the deal-by the time they figure out which strains-the strains have changed. The govt moves slowly. it's like this-are you going to eat expired eggs? some will, some won't. but it's not effective in flu prevention either way. that said, in high population areas, there are viruses that are "older" still hanging on. the shot might help against those, but the stats don't really show a strong correlation. here's what I like about your article- the other articles!!!

Those sound like great reads (?). I'm leery of all shots...don't they put that H1N1 (swine flu) vaccine in flu shots now? Either way I'm not doing it. A couple years ago I had to go get a tetanus shot because a wild pack of chihuahua dogs attacked me (I'm not kidding...stop laughing it's true!). I was at work, outdoors when this happened, obviously), and I managed to walk away with only a punctured calf....they kept calling it a dog bite, but I think it was from a toe nail, ... anyway the school sent me to a clinic and I got a tetanus shot. Little did I know (or stupid me for not barraging them with questions like I usually do) the tetanus shot also had the pertussis vaccine in it and, of course, I had a HORRIBLE reaction to it that kept me in bed for the entire weekend unable to move! Every single joint in my body was swollen and I prayed for a swift death to put me out of my misery. So let that be a lesson. Avoid the pertussis vaccine too!!

I read up on the pertussis vaccine once I realized what was causing my pain, and once I could bend my fingers enough to type and search the web about it, and it turns out that that kind of reaction is common in I think 10% of those you get the same vaccine I had...it has also caused miscarriages (and I won't go into what it did to that part of my body, but it wasn't just my joints that it messed up.) Scary crap.

I hadn't had one in a while? Lord knows what was in my puncture? We didn't think the dogs were rabid...we knew who they belonged to etc. I wasn't a swift a couple years ago as I am now lol I would protest it all if it happened today. Isn't a tetanus standard for dirty punctures?
