Here's another "fake news" expose! Who cares if the United States National Arboretum urgently recommends the removal of the one and only dying so-called "200-year-old" Jackson Magnolia for safety reasons. Me dino's calculator says a tree planted by Andrew Jackson during 1835 would be 182 years old, but a 200-year-old icon hypes way better.

    I have a healthy Live Oak tree next my drive way. It is about to lift the driveway up and crack it to bits. It is 25 years old. How do I know? I planted the fool thing as a sapling.It is going to wreck my driveway. Ithas got to go. Man, it is big for a mere 25 year old. It is the basketball player of oaks. 30 feet tall with branches and roots everywhere.It may not be 200 years old and its branches are solid and not likely to fall off.It is bad enough that it'll cost a couple thou to take down, plus the cost of a new driveway. At least I can save the drive way.. Don't five any eco-freak garbage about saving it. In order to save it, I'd need to put in a new driveway and move my attached garage. Not gonna happen.My property, my taxes, my tree.If Old Andy Jackson used the 2nd floor toilet, does that mean if it springs a bad leak, we can't replace it? OK, then, you go ahead and use it. I'll use the other one downstairs.

    A side issue, but Jackson's victory in the battle of New Orleans meant little but the worthless slaughter of British troops, who didn't know that a treaty ending the conflict had already been signed. The UK had decided that the conflict with Napoleon was more important to the survival of the empire, and had conceded an end to the practices that started the war with the U.S. before the battle began. It would be interesting to speculate if a British victory in that battle would have meant a UK hold on the seaport, or a supportable demand by the U.S. for its return, given hostilities had officially ended.

    And these Libs are why we have huge fires in California. The trees dies and are left to become fuel for wildfires. A city tree cannot be left it it might fall on someone. As someone who has had 50 trees cut down in the past few years to keep them from infecting other trees here in Ohio, sometimes they just have to go. We replant, we have well over 100 left, of various varieties, that is what you do. The problem is these l=Libs are ignorant about nature and science in general. Cows are bad, methane, trees, even dead ones are good, why - CONTROL. I grew up a few miles from Lincold Co., N.M. wheer the forest of Smokey the Bear was located - it was meticulously cleaned. Of course Fonda lhas a house in Santa Fe, so she is likely promoting dangerous forest be left untouched. Idiots abound.

    Yep, a dead, morose tree that is held up with wood and wires, is going to be removed because the wires are pulling out of what little unrotten wood is left. Sort of reminds me of what needs to happen to Congress and the Federal government: remove the wires and cut down the dead wood. Send the dead trees home....

    The removal of deadwood must trigger Ergophobia .

    Certainly that Magnolia , it had a life span of 80-120 years. In full bloom it covered up a bit of swamp gas with its fragment spring blossoms.

    Re : the statue topplers it makes me think of Waters World or Jay Leno .
    They would go out to interview people on the street. These revealed the ignorance of the avg. person. about current events , issues , names of leaders. When it comes to history , most could not differentiate between the revolutionary war and the civil war let alone the participants.
