A small budget British film: boy meets girl and both find themselves hostages in a jewel heist gone really, really wrong.

The undercurrent and moral of the story?
The redemptive and ethical power of Capitalism.

See if I'm wrong.

If they disarmed them then the movie would have ended....before the end.
And their weapon of choice was a vase (said with thee most upper crust of a snoody accent.) "VaaaaaahZ".

True...but it was a low budget British movie... I didn't expect gun savvy OR for the directors to notice a disarming opportunity. lol (The guy was sitting on top of a table in a chair with his arms stretched above his head sawing that tiny tool into the ceiling most of the movie...engrossed in singing with Madam Butterfly (playing on a turn table, what year IS this?) and nobody took his gun, OR knocked his ass over. It's a moooovie.

      I couldn't disagree more.

      1) IRL, armed invasion felonies are not stopped by somebody rushing the gunmen.

      2) To the Brits, guns ARE magic wands, nobody has them except criminals and elite cops. As a population they have no idea what to do around arms.

      3) None of the hostages were of the build or ability to rush one of the assailants: An overweight old man, a frail old woman, a thin pretty girl, and a diminutive young man.

      4) The top thug established a mood of terror immediately by shooting one of the hostages: not to send a message, but because they got on his nerves. Then afterward, every time the men did stand for themselves the received a pretty good beating.

      5) The top thug was a total psychopath who muttered the "Hail Mary" to himself constantly and had a glow-in-the-dark plastic virgin Mary attached to his mask.

I never claimed that the movie was "Die Hard".

What I liked most about it was that Sam started off believing the typical societal indoctrination about "The Rich".

The hostage situation makes him question his beliefs about who the rich are, how they got that way, the nature of predation, the benefits of civilization, and finally realize that some times "rich bastards" are actually doing the "right thing".
