So true! The color rendition is all wrong! How about this: I create art using both photographs I've taken, combined with water colors, and sometimes wax. Not often, though. I prefer oils or charcoal. Very tactile.

Yeah, knowing your color temps pretty much goes with the territory when you're a visual artist, doesn't it?

What fries me is that the gallery standard for photography (6500º) is so different than the gallery standard for oil paintings (5000º). So you cannot properly display photographs and oils in the same room. Who the hell decided that? I'd like to wring his/her neck.

Ya, the light needed for that is definitely a big factor in lamp choice. Nice to see that someone knows what Kelvins are! I had to learn lighting calculations in college for a lighting design class. I finally understood trig!

They were filled with a LOT of cooking/baking, my in laws all here for 4 days, getting my son prepared for his band trip to FL, then absolutely crashing. Oh, I painted my son's bathroom, too. Just finished cleaning my brush, as a matter of fact! Overachiever that I am!

yea, I figured you needed those bulbs for photography. I think you can pretty well self diagnose the other. here's my handy checklist:1. do you start counting down to the shortest day of the year...in September?2.do you notice your energy ebbing in starting in the morning and you begin to compensate for it?3.do you feel quick anger easily and then just as quickly have feelings of despair?(I sound like those depression commercials :))4. do you find these symptoms ebbing the farther you get away from the shortest day of the year? I used to write on a calendar when my husband would change, and it laid out a consistent pattern with exposure to lots of long sunny days where he was totally himself. even before we were conscious of it, I think we thought about moves in terms of follow the sun. unfortunately, I forgot about the sun behind the mountain deal. I remember once considering living in this gorgeous canyon and I took my husband to see the place and the first thing he said once the realtor was out of earshot was "what are you trying to do? Kill me?!" he used to be on meds, but the closer you are to the tropic of cancer, the symptoms disappear. who knew?

Neither I nor my partner has ever been diagnosed, but I started to wonder if we have SADD after our mood change. The reason I need 6500º K is a totally different animal: I'm a photographer.

The LEDs in the motorhome were done to reduce power usage when dry camping; the goal was to reduce it to the point where we could dry-camp for more nights. Didn't work, we only gained half a day but I love that cheery daylight so much I won't even consider going back.

my husband also suffers from SADD when he is where you are. We had special lights in our workplace because of it. we also outfitted the airstream with daylight LEDs. I did not like the price, but I wanted them. Keep your eyes out for subsequent studies on this, however.

I have switched to them. I need light bulbs that are 6500º K, and there's no such thing in incandescent.

Turns out that the daylight color temperature has also improved my mood, and that of my partner. That's important.

I also refitted the motorhome with daylight LEDs, but that's another story.

So very sorry to hear that. Are you able to see your mom at all?

The customer service you received does sound impressive! No paper trail if you don't use paper, though the Internet does leave a mark. I'm kind of "old school", in that I love to write letters. I can't type well enough to save my life, but put a nice pen in my hand, and I'm like Flash! Lol

Compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs) are cheap to run and more expensive than the old incandescents. The light appears to be white but is not a wide spread spectrum but just looks white and is rather unpleasant. The health risk is small (I think) if they are in proper fittings not too close to people. They (should) have their place in the market. Unfortunately, governments (here in Australia etc.) have succumbed to the great green carbon scare and the old incandescent lamps have been banned. The result is no change in global temperatures (of course) but certain big manufacturers of CFLs making a killing. Consumers pay more for lights tho' a bit less in bills, and have cold unpleasant lighting. The real bad part is that decisions are made not by the individuals who are involved but by governments, who are as usual, wrong.

Follow the money. The regulation involving incancescent light bulbs is the same scam as the one for Freon. Most people are too stupid to figure it out. You can't legally buy Freon in the U.S., but I can buy all I care to in Mexico. The inferior and expensive products that replaced Freon are only on the market because the fix was in.

thanks for asking. my holidays were filled with an inlaw passing away and my mom in ICU on life support. that said, I have amazing family, children, sisters, brothers, we all have each other's backs. I am lucky. where I live, "regular old" are what we use. this is kinda funny. imagine buying strings of lights for the holiday and having the clerk who is ringing you up unwrap the packaging and plug in the lights and ensure they are working. THEN fill out a ticket to the same and hand you a receipt.-FIVE STAR. well, I did not need the receipt, as I am paperless-as a religion. happy new year non mooch

I won't use these ever, as they are a nightmare to dispose of, so regular old incandescent lamps are in use in my home. Btw, how were your holidays? I feel so out of the loop!

unfortunately, we don't have the kind of scientific rigor most of us in the Gulch would like to see in said study. but it is kinda like the beast gnawing off its foot caught in the trap
