Another subtle way the state uses the media for propaganda

The title of this presentation accuses Russia of using media to influence the US election. The presenter gives no proof of any of her accusations, so I have changed the title to represent the real issue that may be important to the viewer. The presenter is correct that there is a danger. It is not limited to foreign governments like Russia.

Objectivists know how to solve the problem. Check your premises.

Sadly, much that's wrong with this world originated right at home. The discipline of government media brainwashing was created under the Woodrow Wilson administration, by Edward Bernays, who coined the word propaganda to describe the process. The Soviets were so impressed with how America had manipulated the international press to demonize not only Germany, but anyone who opposed any government policy, that they adopted Bernays' methods. Our government has routinely followed this path since its inception.

This isn't the worst creation that we've spread across the globe. During Union General Sherman's march through the south, Prussian observers took note of his brutal methods. The act of killing ten innocent civilians for every soldier killed by partisans was standard practice under Sherman, and the practice was adopted by the Kaiser's army, and later the SS. Sometimes, we are our own worst enemy.

Influence is something every person and country uses every day. Recall Air America? Even if the Russians used their influence to buy commercials, print signs, pay for protestors and buy banner spots on websites its still does not ensure that anyone will vote in a given way. The ONLY people here who are doing something unnatural to their vocation is the US press who have discarded objectivity and vetting their facts in exchange for using the position to INFLUENCE the US populace in all things, voting included.

Unless the Russians hacked the voting machines or stuffed ballot boxes with dead people or used paid thugs to physically or verbally intimidate people into not voting (common D maneuvers) then there is no story here.

Distraction. What is the left up to and what is its arm (MSM) working so hard for us not to see?

IMO, the story is not about the Russians although that is the example being used because it serves the purpose of the clients of Ms Galante. Its about the manipulation of media (and therefore the audience of the media) by the state.

What sent the media down the Russian Road is the failure of their propaganda against Trump. They followed ever script in the Bernays playbook and failed to change anyone. That truly has them filling their drawers. IF their propaganda does not work they have lost control of people and people reaching their own conclusions ends their power.

Even if we are well aware of the tactics used in disseminating propaganda, how can we ever really get to the real truth? Even our own government, our media, our parties, practically everyone, has some specific agenda and disseminates their own propaganda. I know I'm late, but I just read Sharyl Attkisson's "Stonewalled". It's confirmed to me that our First Amendment rights in this country are actually attacked so indirectly that we're not even aware of what we are being fed anymore. Today, the only facts that I am pretty sure of is that North Korea is a bad regime and needs to be taken down, and that we need Term Limits to help weed out much of the graft and corruption in our government.

I agree that no House or Senate member should get more than 8 years, I also think that they should not get a retirement for public service unless they spent their years in the military fighting our enemies. I also agree they are getting too comfortable in their positions.

I'm not saying that Pres Trump is the best we could do but could you imagine what this country would be like if we had 593 Trumps in office???

I never thought about a whole bunch of Trumps, but we may have to do just that, do it to really clean the swamp. I just can't believe that the country isn't yet screaming for Term Limits. I really doubt there are any legitimate downfalls. If learning all the procedures and processes might be an excuse, they'd only have to change them too.

Unfortunately, the country is filled with people who are asleep to the way politicians operate as looters, or people just trying to survive, or people who are convinced that choosing the lesser evil will work even after failure for 30+ years. The latter just shoot down any other suggestion without recognizing their own insanity.
Multiple Trumps? There aren't any other billionaires willing to take such a risk. Many are just fat and happy with the way they can loot the rest of us with little risk to their own wealth and power. Cowardly worms.

They don't have to be millionaires or billionaires. I would rather vote for a fireman with critical thinking than a lawyer any day. Why do we vote in lawyers anyways? They are trained to deceive people (juries) daily. All of the House, Senate, and Presidents have their own lawyers so why do the politicians have to be lawyers?

Hmmmm... no proof of her accusations... Does she REALLY need to list date and time for her statements?? She poses that we need to think critically (and not believe what comes across on our 'smart phones') and not believe the propaganda of daily life. I think she is dead on, and critical thinking is something that has been missing from our education system for decades. My own experience was a 'C-' from a parochial school and an 'A' from a public junior college. The difference? I had no prime source for my citations, and my HS instructor caught it, my JC instructor did not. Same paper, different title page. I'd suggest reading Eldon Taylor's "Gotcha" for some of the background on this propaganda. We look at the University-level rejection of competing thoughts and their need for "safe spaces" and wonder how we got here, and it amounts to the lack of teaching critical thinking. We are always being influenced by the people and information presented to us, and we need to be critical enough to spot the mis- and dis-information we are bombarded with, no matter who it comes from. I think that was her point, and I thank her for the reminder.

The presenter, Laura Galante, has impressive credentials including leading a cybersecurity portfolio covering Russian threats at the U.S. Department of Defense.
    So, what is her bias?
Is her presentation legitimate or is it another government sponsored mind manipulation?

As far as I see, whether she is biased or not, to the left or the right...is not the point. She mentions, "Critical thinking" and the pursuit of truth but to the point at hand and in her own words, is that weather the left or the right engages in this pursuit, they will find only that which agrees with their own taint on things; not to mention too lazy to go any further if it agrees with their "premise".

Russian Hacks, in my opinion and observations, were just that...hacks and did a piss poor job of steering the election to hiltery or their very own love in life... bernie sandwich and against Trumpet. There really were not that many tweets/posts and not nearly enough likes or followers. Only the dumb followed and were probably too dumb to mark their ballots correctly, assuming, of course, they could get off their utopian stupors and actually make it to the booths on time.

PS...government sponsored manipulation advocating one use their mind and be objective in a society that rejects the mind, the good and the facts...you must be kidding me...right?

Propaganda works best when those who are being manipulated are confident they are acting on their own free will.
The bigger the lie, the more it will be believed.
        Joseph Goebbels
IMO, the presentation may call for use of the mind in order to make it appear benign to the audience.

And that's the problem. I would take her message under advisement but still remain skeptical even though I am well aware of what Russia, China and Iran are up to. Watched three shows this week on the problem, the history and factual observations on the Blaze network. These shows were created in April of this year in the series: Roots. Red State Rising. Don't know how I missed them but am grateful for the repeat season.

Wouldn't be surprised if they are suppressing search results for that specific lecture...as it shows the man behind the curtain.

I have seen complete fabrications by the news around here. In one of my favorite cases a friend of mine was interviewed by the local news in his kitchen at home about medical stuff. Knowing his view doesn't match the preferred narrative he set up a hidden camera to capture the entire interview, guessing they'd try to smear him and show him as a fool. Well, that's what they did. They edited the interview to their liking. He responded by airing the entire interview on the internet, along with the whole story. The local news show tried to get the courts to stop him but they couldn't - they had filmed him in his own home. "The news" doesn't report the news. They just feed the preferred narrative. Brilliant. Evil, but brilliant.
