Saudi Arabia Gates of Hell: New Images Reveal Secrets of Ancient Mystery Structures

This is an interesting tid bit, because I just saw this on "What on Earth" on science channel, there is an ancient belief that the Gates of Hell were 9, and the goddess of love and sex went through all of them, sheeding an item in each to appear nude in front of the ruler of hell, and to make it back, she had to make a deal to substitute her husband. Nice goddess. But they have identifed a boatload of these things and none of them are mentioned in Egyptian texts (big guys at the time), andthe dating is difficult. I guess the 9000 year mark seems fitting, which is getting right to the end of Younger Dryas, oddly enough.

Some of the gates had hardened lava flows over them the dating will be difficult with zero vegetation. the structures — and their precarious location — are so mysterious that there’s bound to be an even greater story waiting to be told. Something to keep in mind is these sites have possibly been repurposed which can skew the dating.

My observation is that the time lines are so screwed up; naturally as well a purposefully, we might never know unless we can devise a fool proof system of measurement...I wouldn't hold one's breath, though.

You are correct to link in the cycles. They play a big role in history...just like what we are experiencing now.

Yes, 19th and 20th centuries time lines that were best guesses and adopted as fact have in many instances been found to be much older. As more knowledge is acquired and other considerations factored in redating only makes sense but is usually fought tooth and nail.Today there are clever astronomical alignment techniques that factor in the precession of the constellations and the stones alignments related to them.
Some day someone will figure out what the stone walls the snake through New England's purpose was and the age (doubtful) , of course much of the walls have been reused as borders and street paths.

Some of the rocks, (boulders), could not of been moved by hand...unless they were the Nephlim Giants. A few in the wall in my front yard are 6 to 8 feet long and over 3 foot thick and every10/15 feet lies a milky quarts rock...seems to be pretty consistent.

I have a large stone less than three feet diameter
That I have tried with other adult men to move and to no avail , it is a pebble compared most megalith stones. I have read about the white colored Quartz
Intermittently placed. Many thousands of miles of these stone walls.

There in is the problem with this, you get "historians" suchas prominent egyptologists, who become embedded in a particular line of history and then must keep everything in that line, which is why there are so many inconsistencies in Egyptology. The Sphinx is one, where no one really could prove who built it, but because a guy said Khufu or Cheops, it got dated to that time, yet weathering and other data says far, far older.

The Sphinx was actually named by the Greeks.
Dr Robert Schoch a geologist has Said the erosion from water on its body indicates it is much older then Egyptologist estimate.
Best evidence suggests It was originally the head of Anubis
As this dog was the protector God.https://www.google.com/search?q=egyptian+dog&...

So, did someone supposedly recut the head to a human? Anubis is traditionally dog headed, so that seems it would be a lot of work. Although maybe his nose fell off and they went "oops, better redo this..."...

                Hi Nickursis,
The way the dog sits on his haunches is totally like the sculpture. The way a lion sits is with back legs to the side.https://http://goo.gl/images/TJWXwQ.
Ther are no references to the Sphinx on any of the
Hyroglyphic Texts but hundreds of references of the protector "guard dog" Anubis. The ears and nose are long and pointed , they would be the first to break off. The current head is to small proportionately to the body. This repurposing leads to confusion of dating the Sphinx as does the separate Stella relief between the front paws. If you look at the lion picture and the Anubis , to me the answer is obvious.http://http://www.google.com/search?q=egypti...

Well, that is an interesting idea, have you ever run across any "reconstructed" images that would show what it could have looked like? As Graham said, the Osiris/Anubis legend/story came out of one of the cities that do not exist as such any more and one specific area he said seemed to be the focus. Did they have any other places where something like that would exist?

You are referring to the Sumerian myth of Innana in the underworld, which was written down in around 2,500 BC. (Proto-writing in that area dates to about 3KBC but the earliest examples are bookkeeping and tallies.) Opinion seems to be divided whether she was visiting the underworld to try to take it over from her sister (the then-ruler) or if she was actually trying to go to the funeral ceremonies for her brother-in-law (the Bull of Heaven, whose death she had caused). The Sumerian myths were adopted by the Babylonians - in whose tales it was Gilgamesh who killed the Bull.

I would expect to see some indication that these finds were linked to the myth in order to consider that we were dealing with more than a modern association between the two.

The Goddess you are referring to is the Sumerian Goddess Inanna also known as the Babylonian Goddess Ishtar. The story of Inanna decent into Hell is several thousand years earlier to the similar myth of Jesus decent into Hell. Inanna not only had to leave a article of clothing at each Gate but when she got to Hell she had to hang up her skin on the wall of Hell. Her estranged husband was tricked into rescuing from Hell. Then was so horrified at seeing her hanging in Hell (actually the Underworld) that he broke down and consented to take Inanna's place to the Lord of the Underworld. She was resurrected and made her way back to the real world. Then she had here faithful servant cu down huge cedars to block the entrance to the Underworld.
