I think the story exposes the sad fact that our existence hangs by an electronic thread. I believe that, if this thread is cut on purpose or by incompetence, we will return to a pre-civilized state of survival by savagery.

Over something like food... I wouldn't be surprised if they did. I would expect it to take a day or two though.

I noticed the EBT not working at the 7-11 down the street. I didn’t realize this was going on nationwide till I read it here. You’re right. The owner of the 7-11 has been soliciting for customers to seek employment with him on his printed receipts for years. He is always understaffed. Nobody wants the work.

Just following the financial crisis, when EBT users were snugly still fixed up, thousands upon thousands of entrepreneurs watched their businesses dry up seemingly over night. They would not qualify for EBT, they would go through the process of firing workers, selling their assets, losing their homes. They had no one to ask for help save family and friends. Your card doesn't work? ask for a job.

If their too lazy to support themselves I doubt they'd gather the energy to riot.

The 'slowdown is two weeks old. These cards would have been blocked on day one, just like the federal monuments.

My brother went to our local supermarket today to pick up lunch. The woman in front of him was attempting to use her EBT card. She was furious that it was not working and insisted that a manager come over to help. He calmly explained that she had tried it too many times and that she was now "locked"out. She said that she would pay cash but didn't like it! My brother said that clearly the pop and reeses cups she was buying must have been too important for her to wait til the card worked.

Poor thing had to fork over cash??!!! Oh the humanity!!

I can see their pain. I cannot feel it.

I can see their confusion and fear. Since it is MY life they believe they have a blank check against, I will not help them.

Those who refused to learn when they were handed the opportunity, will discover the reality that any lesson put off is harder. If what they eagerly studied was helplessness, and denial of responsibility, and demanding the means of survival without caring where it came from, will see how much those lessons learned will help them now.

Those who added new lives to society without any way to care for them except by taking the spoil from the robbery of every producer in the world will discover what happens with the use of the word “no”.
