Behind Russia’s hacking: Misfires

So, the media keeps wanting to make this a Russian run, Russian orchestrated thing, and yet the never disclose who the "sources close to Russia" and how they determine "closely aligned to the Russian Government" and "hackers known as Fancy Bear were closely aligned with the interests of the Russian government.". They never provide one fact, just these "supposed facts". They also neglect to mention that in this time frame there are hundreds of attacks going on, and I am willing to bewt they targeted Republicrats, Obama, not to mention businesses and the real thing they were doing in many, many little groups, hacking to encrypt your data for ransom. This "Secureworks" offers some reports if you sign up with your email, but seems to want money for protection and doesn't mention selling studies, or "data". So, if it is not available, did they pay for it? There seems to be a lot of holes in the story, yet it is presented as incontrovertable truth that the poor Dumbocraps, with their "state of the art" security, had a goober like Podesta that even the article admits "A malicious link was generated for Podesta at 11:28 a.m. Moscow time, the AP found. Documents subsequently published by WikiLeaks show that the rogue email arrived in his inbox six minutes later. The link was clicked twice." That doesn't seem very "state of the art" to me. This seems like someone needed a real "heavy" article to counter all the "Clinton Crap" flying around, and make the whole "Russia Collusion" story useful again. I mean, really, Podesta gets a google security request and clicks on it?

I wouldn't say the D's play was a misfire as much as I would call it an act of extreme arrogance. The game changed and they are still playing by the D playbook. Look at what they managed to accomplish with control of the government and media. They never required facts with O, only speculation and the influence of fear and distrust of government. The worm has turned. Now there are some, only some, who actually value their credibility who are being FORCED by DT's brash candor and behavior to actually prove him wrong..and they are finding that they can't.

If nothing else, DT will have underscored the decrepitude of American government and the complicity and collusion of the MSM to bring down the country.

I do hope someone in the DT administration enacts proceedings for treason. There are far too many deserving of the hangman's noose, even quite a few calling themselves republicans.

absolutely, when he took the oath of office it supersedes personal associations. Conduct matters as much as character,

That is just the problem. No president has taken an oath to the people and their constitution. He took an oath to God not to the people and the law.
When I testify in a court of law, I always request an oath which specifies under what ( pains of perjury linked to the law) will happen for lying and not to some most likely non-existent god. Perhaps that is why so many lie under oath with no god to punish them and maybe why so many theists end up being dishonest.

"Even if Russian interference made only a marginal difference," Clinton told an audience at a recent speech at Stanford University, "this election was won at the margins, in the Electoral College."

If it was, indeed, "won at the margins" that means you can not lay the blame at any specific marginal effect. In my experience, any honest and effective assessment of a "marginal" outcome focuses not on any marginal effects, but on major ones that made it a marginal decided result. The fact that her campaign ignored states that she then lost is undeniably a much larger effect.

Admitting someone lost "at the margins" means that person first lost at the majors.

An interesting but largely diversionary tale. My thought is that Julian Assange was telling the truth when he said the Russians were not the source of leaked Clinton (and other) emails. The real question is, who killed Seth Rich, and why, and why was Donna Brazile so freaked out following Rich's murder that she substantially enhanced her own personal security?

Those are good questions and something that has been ignored in all reports, except by the very right wing sites. She has done that and more, so she must be concerned the Clinton killing machine may make an appearance. Seth Rich will have his place next to their lawyer dude who also mysteriously dies. I am sure somewhere on the web is a Clinton Bodycount.

    From the article:
"A malicious link was generated for Podesta at 11:28 a.m. Moscow time, the AP found. Documents subsequently published by WikiLeaks show that the rogue email arrived in his inbox six minutes later. The link was clicked twice."

The way this is written the implication is that the intended result happened within minutes. However, two things put the lie to the article. First is the string of emails where Podesta sought confirmation no its validity and a response that was reportedly a mis-type saying it was OK. The second was that it would have been about 0330 when it "arrived" in Podesta's inbox.

I actually don't really blame Podesta for it. He responded appropriately by forwarding it on to their security team for confirmation and acted subsequently based on what he was told in the response. From a behavioral standpoint, that is precisely what you want a user to do. The failure here was that the response from their security team had not been double-checked for accuracy before being sent.

I won't give such a powerful intellectual as Podesta such credit. It was some Google thing wanting them to update their passwords, so why would anyone fall for that? Why would they be using such systems anyways. You do not run something as sensitive as this OP and not be behind 6 million firewalls.

I find the ads very very creepy. They probably accounted for a small amount of ad buys and weren't that different from domestic partisan ads. But it's just creepy how they seem not to advocate any particular policy or candidate. They didn't decrease after the election. They just became more anti-Trump. They just aim to make Americans see themselves as groups pitted against one another rather than individuals. It creeps me out like listening to th Soviet UVB-76 buffer on shortwave as a kid. It probably has a boring explanation, but it creeps me out in a ghost-story sort of way. That's how I see the ads.

What's even more creepy is that many fell for it, no thought, no questions, just following the bait...they may as well be grayhounds chasing a fake rabbit in a circle.

"What's even more creepy is that many fell for it,"
Yes. I like to think that the Russian stuff was hopefully a drop in the bucket of home-grown simple-minded group politics. The creepy thought is if the Russians instigated it and possibly in a way that seems confusing to me, but actually "they have a plan" like the Cylons in the re-imagined BSG.

In my Cylon scenario, people who doubt all US institutions and think either Republicans or Democrats are all corrupt and getting away with it and those who view this as how politicians can exploit it are all totally sucked in to Russian plan. I don't think the grand-plan idea is true. I think it's mostly just domestic partisanship, I hope so anyway.

        "th Soviet UVB-76 buffer"
By the way I meant the UVB-76 Buzzer. You can listen to those buzzes and imagine those pictures of old buildings in some little Russian town being a place where they send secret messages to spies around the word. It's the same with those number stations.

This is as close as I get to understanding the mind of people who see conspiracies everywhere. I truly believe the reality behind mysterious shortwave stations is boring than any creepy stories people think of.

Its called destabilization. It's intended to undermine confidence in American government and pave the path for Americans to look to foreign leadership. Recall Carter asking for UN oversight in our elections and US SCOTUS Judges citing foreign law as precedent for US law.

And that, is what scares anyone who can see that it is the path to the infamous "one world rule". So far, I have not seen any proof of an altruistic position on any world org, they all are run just like our politics, special interests and money, so no thanks to that, we have our own crooks, we don't need someone elses.

Exactly. Progressive think-less-ing has the smartest ruling the masses when the fact is they, at least, are the "dumbest among us" and could be weighed and measured in our sleep and found not wanted. The UN is no different...just a collective of the great unwashed.

Laughing...like the Staples "Easy" button; turns out, not so easy and not very effective either. The Democrats did more to spite their own stupidity than any power hungry country could do.

As for theories, it's no secret that their are those that would change the nature of Conscious and non-Conscious, (disempowered) Humans into something we are not...subservient surfs at their beckon call.

I say to them...Tie your own shoe laces for a change.
