I waited on an elderly gentleman this morning whom I have waited on many times. John is kind and soft spoken. He always has a smile on his face and speaks with a heavy Italian accent. As we made small talk I joked about the government shutdown. The smile quickly disappeared from his face. He said he could not believe so many educated people could not resolve this. He talked, with some embarrassment about how he did not even finish the 5th grade. I asked if he had to work and support his family. He said no, that Mussolini had come to power while he was in elementary school. By the time he was in 5th grade the war was going badly. German soldiers patrolled the streets and boys his age were known to have just disappeared. He did not know what happened to them. His family decided he should not go out any longer. The war ended and he made his way to the US. He worked at the Mill until he retired and now does landscaping to stay busy. I thought about what I was worried about in the 5th grade? I wondered how we could let this country slip away while men like John, who saw the worst the world had to offer, were still able to warn us about what could happen. I realized that this is not his fight. He did what he could. It is up to us now. We need to preserve freedom and liberty out of respect for men like John and because it is the right thing to do.

Defenders of individual liberty and the rule of republican law (as defined here - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DioQooFIc...) are painted as "extremists" and, essentially, enemies of society.

People close their eyes to the evidence of history as events unfold before them; the possibility is too scary to consider, so it's easier to demonize the Cassandras within society.

Thus, history repeats, again and again.

That’s because we heed not the wisdom of the good witch, Glinda and laugh away the naysayers for the flying monkeys that they are.

I think they updated the software to tag everything copied. I don’t like that myself. When someone uses a term I am unfamiliar with, I try to copy it and paste it in google to check it out, but now every ‘copied’ word is hit with a tag to check this place out. It’s time consuming to delete the added end tag but that’s the only way to get around it.

After I copied, it showed up with the menu you are talking about. It might be something with your browser. When I am on mobile app it tends to do some funky stuff, so I hit switch to desktop mode at the bottom of the screen and it clears it up. I guess my point is that I think it is a glitch.

I was rocking my grandson to sleep when I read this. :( So many horror stories in history.... why do so many ignore them or think they couldn't happen again?
Thanks for taking the time to talk to him...and for telling us.

Thanks Minnie. He is so quiet and kind and to hear the fear he must have known when he was a child was moving.
