TO ALL MY LIBERAL FRIENDS: Please accept with no obligation, implied or implicit, my best wishes for an environmentally conscious, socially responsible, low-stress, non-addictive, gender-neutral celebration of the winter solstice holiday, practiced within the most enjoyable traditions of the religious persuasion of your choice, or secular practices of your choice, with respect for the religious/secular persuasion and/or traditions of others, or their choice not to practice religious or secular traditions at all. I also wish you a fiscally successful, personally fulfilling and medically uncomplicated recognition of the onset of the generally accepted calendar year 2013, but not without due respect for the calendars of choice of other cultures whose contributions to society have helped make America great. Not to imply that America is necessarily greater than any other country nor the only America in the Western Hemisphere . Also, this wish is made without regard to the race, creed, color, age, physical ability, religious faith or sexual preference of the wish...

TO ALL MY CONSERVATIVE FRIENDS: Merry Christmas and happy New Year!

The fall of the Roman Empire was in large part because they began to devalue their currency by alloying their coins with less gold in them. It was the equivalent of what we are doing now, printing more paper money. The value of perfumes/ frankincense, myrrh and other commodities held their value and demanded more coin. When hyperinflation occurs, a nation naturally loses in many ways. When you are sweltering in the heat and drought without access to regular bathing, perfume would hold more value to you than a gold nugget. Consider the market of the time. Consider the guy next to you on the four hour plane flight that has never heard of deodorant!
    Regards,
    O.A.

I think it just smells good, like frankincense. Why they equated the value of gold with perfume has always left me scratching my head. but it could be an indicator of the collapse of the Roman Republic.

Could have summed this up with: "Concerning this time of the year, do whatever you want...does anything really matter?"
