I bet the gov lawn keepers can't push a lawn mower AND hold a flag at the same time.

It's just something neither party has gotten around to regulating. The next Omnibus Band Aid spending Maybe for the Moment Bill on page 1218 will have in sect b, sub section c: You must pay a fee of 100.00 per pound of grass mowed on any Federal land, payable in advance with a 250.00 environmental permit and an exhaust free global warming certified lawnmower must be used.
Nice job whoever you are! The only working dude in DC!

At least the gov't is running sufficiently to stop lawn mowing. That must be an essential function unaffected by the shutdown.

He is helping during the shut down. He's helping with a practical problem (trash removal) but even more so with the powerful message in the quote. It's great too that he doesn't voice a political opinion about who's to blame or the details. He's just picking up some tools and getting to work.

Other "news" sources (http://www.npr.org/blogs/thetwo-way/2013...) say that this man is "helping" during the shutdown. Amazing what spin that "journalists" can put on a story to make it say what they want to.

The guy was quoted as saying: "The building behind me serves as a moral compass, not only for our country but for the world. And over my dead body are we going to find trash pouring out of these trash cans," he said. "At the end of the day, we are the stewards of these buildings that are memorials."

    God Bless that man.

Great comments. Why didn't the police just show up when he was done? More people need to just do stuff like this!

WOW!!!! Kudos to Random Dude!!! I loved the responses below, as well. As I've said, the federal workers are employed on our dime. Fire them all and hire self motivators!
