Hello LS, Legal immigrants like Mr. Rodriquez should be praised and embraced. Respect is earned and deserved by those who show respect for the rule of law. I tire of the media people that keep referencing the words on the tablet held by the statue of liberty. Those words are not our national motto. The statue was a gift from the French during a time when legal immigration was practiced, proper orderly processing was done through places like Ellis Island, we needed people to settle new territories and we had no welfare state. Regards, O.A.
I applaud his well thought out responses to the moderator and the priest. As stated in a prior post, there was no welfare state in place for the immigrants in our early history. Rewarding bad behavior only begets MORE bad behavior.
You go, Paul! They are actually flummoxed by finding a Latino who speaks out rationally. We could use a hundred more. But, keep in mind, it's lonely to be a Latino that tells it like it is, or a conservative Jew, or a Muslim protesting jihadists. You will often be ostracized, treated as a pariah, and in the case of Muslims, actually put yourself in harm's way.
Zuhdi is a devout Muslim who does speak out against terrorist Muslims. After 9-11, Sean Hannity did a search to find a Muslim who would condemn what happened on 9-11. Shortly thereafter Zuhdi Jasser became the go-to spokesman on that topic.
Actually it is Zuhdi Jasser. Zuhdi is male and very reasoned. Sorry, I had never seen the spelling of his name. I have seen and heard him multiple times, first with my local talk radio station host and then half a dozen times on Hannity's radio and TV shows.
I am reminded of Yakov Smirnoff's routines about the Soviet Union, back when they were still in business. As a naturalized American, he was free to speak his mind. Of course, even that has changed since those days. God forbid that one should use one's First Amendment rights. Remember that everyone is free to change the channel if they do not like what they see. At least for now.
Just awesome. Like Bill Cosby on welfare. Love the idea of these people coming here to seek opportunity. Hard working people wanting a better place in the world by endorsing and participating in a superior system. I know many from Russia, India, Mexico Sri Lanka, Brazil and even Peru. This is quite different from coming here seeking a nicer place to do nothing, or a better schools and healthcare funded by other people's taxes. and asking us to accept other languages on government forms or street signs and to insist we all press 1 for English. Perhaps the metric for adult green cards and then immigration should be to demonstrate a work ethic. Skills can be taught.
Well said Paul. Obviously an intelligent factual statement, not some rant about liking or disliking poor people that are breaking our laws, invading our country. I'm astounded how many in the media don't understand these concepts, the truth. It's like they (the media) are here only to cause dissention, disparity, misunderstanding, separation, disagreement (argument), animosity, etc. Why don’t we just open all our borders, the ports, airports, etc., and let everyone and anyone come in freely? Because it’s our law, we are a nation of laws. Obey our law or cause the law to be changed, period. If we had a leader he would explain that to the people and the media, close the border(s) or change the law, then we could move on to another subject.
your link leads to a very good talk;;; I just wish that the speaker had explained how we can best help the poor people of the world -- by exporting freedom and capitalism!!! -- j
Hi, John, I am afraid that such simple exportation could not work now and not in the foreseeable future. For a people to live in freedom and in capitalism, they have to meet some cultural, educational and cognitive ability standards. My favorite expression is: "people get the governments they deserve". To me, that is a self evident axiom. Our Founders did not come from England and set up the constitutional republic out of thin air. They were an expression of the will of the majority of colonists among whom they lived. In other words, colonists were mature enough to be able to live in a free self-governing country. It is that freedom that then served as a petri dish were those pesky germs called entrepreneurs could thrive and multiply evolving the nation's economy into a capitalist one. On immigration (I am an immigrant) my most important requirement after health and lack of criminal record would be that every immigrant must have an IQ score above the then current average of the US population, which I think is 100 or close to it. What do you think?
I know a couple of mentally challenged brothers who have always worked and believe in freedom. They are like eternal 12 year olds now in their 50's. We're good guys even when they were kids. I Q . Test? No. Get the gov out of schools, yes. Stop entitlement programs, yes.
Hi, LS, I think that it is well established that cognitive ability correlates very well with levels of education achieved, as well as with socioeconomic status achieved. Education does not confer cognitive ability. It makes it informed, knowledgeable and productive. We all know uneducated bright people and dull PhDs. It is the cognitive ability that distinguishes humans from all other species and generally correlates extremely well with success in life in all cultures. Immigration is importation of human capital not a charity. Have you seen the video behind the URL that NealS posted 9:40 hours ago (above)? It makes it crystal clear that immigration as charity is nonsense.
How? Doesn't it depend on what kind of help and how costly the help is? My main contention is that if we want to import anything (or anyone) we ought to decide explicitly why are we doing it (and why we need it) and what are minimum quality specifications that we are willing to accept, as well as the quantity of "good" we are willing to import. To my way of thinking that is being sensible. This is the kind of logic that AR considered "selfish". That term has acquired a negative connotation, so, instead, let's just stick to John Galt's oath. We refuse to live for somebody else.
Keep following that oath... why "help" them there? We send millions, no, billions on these and other countries to "help" the impoverished... we've been throwing tax payer monies (which is the only money gov has) at them for decades and to what end? What has improved??? Not a thing! Ask yourself why that is. Who are we really "helping"?
I couldn't agree more with you on all of these points. I am no expert on these things. But, with the help of experts, I would attempt to do three things: - Use the modern technology to advertise freedom and capitalism. I think that during the Cold War, American radio plaid a significant role in educating people in Easter Europe about alternatives to communist tyranny. As did, to a lesser extent, BBC. Shottky, co-inventor of transistors once said that the thing that he liked the most about that invention was that now a shepherd high in the mountains of Tibet, with a device the size of a pack of cigarettes could listen to anybody in the world. We are far advanced from there. Let's take advantage. - Do business and trade with everybody as much as possible. They will learn, slowly, to compete, both internally and externally. Our products are advertisements. - There are countries in the world that would seek to destroy us. We must have defense arrangements with likeminded countries. Bribery is prevalent in the world, so we must compete in that too: offer favors in return for favors. No gifts ever. I am afraid that that the root cause of the problems you (and I) lament is our own ideological and political confusion. As is evident in so many things, the elephantine government that we have evolved consistently uses the left hand without knowing what the right hand is doing. I better stop. I am just venting my frustrations.
This is at least the second time I have heard Paul Rodriguez being conservative. A few years ago there was a man-exacerbated drought to protect a two inch minnow. This was wiping out farmers (including a farm owned by Rodriguez), he was on Sean Hannity's program describing the situation.
People who have come here thru legal channels from any country should not support the illegal immigrants because it will reduce the available benefits for programs to help them
What? There shouldn't be any "benefits"...the "benefit" is BEING HERE. Some how the idea of freedom has become second to mooching from those who will give give and give endlessly. It sickens me. The come to feed off of our blind compassion. It didn't used to be that way.....
Sure didn't get the answer he was looking for, did he? Luved it. The legal immigrants in this nation are incensed over this amnesty BS. They worked hard to get here and see no reason why others should get a free pass to citizenship and the benefits they must pay for with their taxes. Paul hit the nail on the head with his statement.
This speaks to me in so many facets. As a hispanic person, I am constantly berated that I should feel a certain way on illegal immigration because I should "stand with my latino brothers and sisters".
Lemon's comment about "people will be surprised to hear that coming from someone who's an immigrant"...
What, because Paul immigrated legally, and has a Hispanic surname, he's supposed to take the poor, sad immigrants stealing over our border should be given privilege and we should be shocked? Don Lemon sure has the right last name, IMO... typical of the racist moocher mindset.
Boy did that rattle the teleprompters at CNN? O.A. I agree respect is earned and deserved by those who respect the rule of law. We my friend Gulcher are in accord. I give you a great 1 point.

I believe I said that, but it cannot be emphasized too much. :)
Thank You!
O.A.
iirc, in that video he says that his father came here illegally.
"The statue was a gift from the French"
Consider the source... the first Marxists.

The two I had in mind were Hirsi Ali and Brigitte Gabriel.
Zooty? As in Zooty Suity?

This is the best explanation I've seen on immigration here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LPjzfGCh...
It probably should be a new subject.

No, come here legally and stop breaking the law.
I wrote the above because it felt good.
