”I want to explain to you why you are the most important person in the Universe…. and if you don’t think so… then you’ll never really get anywhere worth going… “ - John Aglialoro

Recently, Atlas Shrugged Movie Producer, John Aglialoro, was asked to give a speech to the Executive Forum Group of a local business. Always ready to further propagate the principles of Objectivism, he enthusiastically accepted.

While those lucky enough to be in attendance got to experience John’s passionate and infectious delivery first hand, the Gulch did manage to score a copy of his spectacular speech, “The Virtue of You First… an Ethical Basis”, with all of his personal hand written notes in tact.

Mr. A has obviously done his homework, and has presented the contents of his studies in a clear and forceful way. He is able to condense important concepts so that they are easily understood without the dryness often encountered by such expository orations.
    Good job John Aglialoro.

John, it is great to see the text of a speech given in public that is clear and emotionally powerful on fundamentals of ethics. An additional point is that freedom to act is the only possible source of pride. Business people with the psychology of a producer take pride in their work and pride can be the bridge concept that links work to philosophy. Wiggy is a good example as is yourself.
    Thank you.

Wonderful! Thank you for posting the speech in that form; as others have noted, the handwritten notes and emendations get us closer to John's mind.
I particularly loved (and added to my journal) ""It is not for our flaws that the United States of America is often hated, but for our virtues ... not for our weaknesses, but for our achievements, not for our failures, but for our success ... our magnificent, shining, life-giving success."

First time I've read a speech in the rough that, with underlined prompters for voiced emphasis, is meant to be heard--not written.
By the way, I'm the most important dinosaur in the universe and, by virtue of lasting millions of years longer, dinosaurs are more important than all of you,
Don't tell me you puny humans are better because dinos are now extinct. It took a zooming down six-mile-wide fiery space rock to take us out.
You? Have you been reading about Yellowstone super volcano? Me dino read yesterday that scientists now think it's gonna blow within decades.
    Tick! Tick! Tick!
Bet some birds make it through the ensuing nuclear-like winter. Guess what birds evolved from?
Whoa! New thought. Birds are more important than puny humans, too.
    I am dino~
    Hear me ROAR!

Just remember Dinosaurs laid eggs and wander off to leave the little things on their own. They also couldn't thermos adapt to ice ages. The little shrew like things that gave live birth and could regulate their temp were going to win in the end. If you are going to lay eggs grow feathers if it gets cold.
      Always fun to Dino it.

You must not have seen Jurassic Park the second one aka The Lost World.
In one scene stegosaurs converged to protect a baby.
Then later in the movie, a T-Rex tears up San Diego looking or its baby.
All that was based on archeologists determining that dinos nurtured their young
It's also been determined that raptors had feathers all over them.
That's why raptors sprouted cute little head feathers when Jurassic Park III came out.

I felt like the hand-written notes allowed me to imagine the points of emphasis in the talk.

It's beyond the scope of this talk why capitalism widely scorned. As I was reading it, I was thinking it's not really capitalism. If you ask the average critic of capitalism what's bad about it, they may say it's bad that it asserts it's okay to steal if you can get away with it or that it calls on the gov't to subsidize business. I actually think many of the critics would support it if you described it and didn't call it by name.

To me the structure o the banking system is not a problem on part with the income tax.

The one thing that detracted from it was the very few cases of name-calling. It just seemed not to fit in with the subject and actually detracted from the otherwise clear message.

I love the quote at the end.

Capitalism is scorned because it requires thinking, effort and effective decision making, taking risk. Collectivism requires nothing of the individual but to "go along to get along."

"People whose lives are barren and insecure seem to show a greater willingness to obey than people who are self-sufficient and self-confident. " (Hoffer)
"Those who see their lives as spoiled and wasted crave equality and fraternity more than they do freedom." (Hoffer)

"Capitalism is scorned because it requires thinking,"
My claim is that it's widely misunderstood too. It would be interesting to read a study that examines attitudes toward capitalism and understanding of capitalism. I suspect people have a more positive attitude about it the more they know about it. I also suspect some people who claim to oppose capitalism do not know what the word means and actually agree with it.
