This is the first I've heard of this, but if the article is accurate the whole beating thing looks like a setup. That is, the perp is deliberately being an ass, baiting the principal to tell him to stop, perp drops headphones on the floor and I imagine steps back, principal bends over to pick up headphones, perp attacks. It was a setup. It was deliberate.

Then the judge says "we're proud of you"??????!!!!!!! NOT for any kind of apology to his victim, but for agreeing to go along with some kind of "family counseling"!!!! Really? Uh-huh! Sounds like a "New Jim Crow" case where the message sent to the community is the white boy should sit down and shut the hell up or receive another beating.

If you live by violence you will likely die by violence. I don't think his life expectancy is to long. He is a candidate for a future BLM rally the way he responds to authority. No consequences means no responsibility no change in behavior is the result.

I remember a story that my ex brother in law told me. He was a strong athlete (football and hockey) in College and was out on a Friday night drinking and looking to fight. He picked on a skinny guy who was at the bar. The skinny guy hit him and knocked him out but also hit him three or four more times before he hit the deck. Skinny guy happened to be a gold glove champ.

If I were the assaulted educator, I'd be looking to get the judge disbarred for misconduct - or impeached. There's absolutely no place in the judiciary for a judge who applauds assault on another human being.

This judge sent a message that she has his back and go do what you want. This kid needs limit, respect for others, and EDUCATION, which he likely is not getting.

The primary issue has been unchanged since corporal punishment became a no-no. A little before the time prayer was abolished in school. If you are raised with nobody holding real authority over you, be it a principal or God then you become your own authority and do whatever you please. Now we add in violent movies, video games, music and these kids are bombarded 24-7 that they and only they decide what is right or wrong, who deserves to own property and if they just want to take it, and who can tell them to beat up who. They become a god in their own world and nobody can tell them what not to do.

Kids need and deserve structure and authority in their lives from a young age or they grow up to be self absorbed, violent punks like this one. Breaking minor laws and running afoul the police, having their "strong lecture" from a judge who can't really do anything to them. Then one day they are a adult and they finally commit a serious crime a judge locks them up with others just like themselves. Only to be released after a short stay, a worse, more violent creature than when they walked into prison. Released to rape, steal and murder as they see fit, because that's how we educated them to be.

I bet the judge thinks this his last chance to get his life in order, and if I send him to jail, he'll just a get a masters degree in crime. But at some point adult consequences have to start, and it's too late for it to be a youthful mistake. Unless there's some powerful mentor in his life to make him work his tail off making restitution or else go to prison, it's probably too late, and they should send him to jail. I imagine police and judges see these people all the time and it makes for depressing work.
