    I think we would have more states onboard if we had a way or the will to deny the Fed our state (everyone) tax money so the states wouldn't cave in need of Federal Grants for it's infrastructure.

    The Selectman from my town informed me that the State has it's claws on local generated tax money and we had to Fight to get some of it back!
    I said...(you know what I advised already)...well, don't give it to them in the first place.

    The same would go for the State versus the Federal Government.

      Which is why I believe there should only be 50 tax payers to the federal government. States should collect taxed from their populations via consumption and then provide 1/50th or the national total to the FedGov to operate. This way 320 million people don't have to deal with the federal government annually, the federal government HAS TO be beholden to each State to be paid, and the IRS can be disbanded. Also, MANY federal programs can be washed away since the States have the funds to manage those things themselves.

      Just a thought.

          I also believe State Senators should not be elected, they should be appointed by the Governors of each state. In this capacity THEY are beholden to the State/Governor and can be fired if they stray from what the Governor wants for the State from the Fedgov. Senators forget that they work for the State. Who need term limits for these State employees?

            I believe that is the way it used to be. I don't remember when it changed but think it was after the civil war.

            I also agree with your taxes solution. At least it would be a step in the right direction.

              I'm fairly sure as well. Its the only logical and Constitutional way I can see the states having as much control as possible within the Fedgov to keep it in check. I think the film 'Mr. Smith Goes to Washington' was an example of that type of setup.

            State Senators or US Senators? Every States defines its own assembly and government. Some have the standard bicameral legislatures, but a few don't.

            US Senators were originally elected by their respective State Assemblies. Governors only became involved in the event of the departure of a sitting Senator between election years. The 18th Amendment changed that and made Senators popularly elected. The main instigator was a Senator from Montana who bribed the legislators in Helena to keep putting him in as Senator. He was a mining magnate and one of the richest men in the nation at that point in time.

            This is one of the Amendments I would rescind if at all possible. The result has been the gradual diminishing of State influence in National policy-making.

        YES!

        I also think that the States individually should be responsible for supporting their elected Congressional representatives - and Staffs. Make them beholden to the States they supposedly represent for fraud investigations, etc.

    Dream on. I'm 74 and I have a bumper sticker that says, "Don't blame me, I voted for Goldwater." Since then, it has been down hill, the collectivists/globalists are winning and only total chaos will result. Trump is simply a speed bump in the fall of the USA, the "swamp" is too big, too deep and will win.

        After yesterday's NFL crap, which I'm no longer interested in (and have a wonderful feeling of freedom from), I really don't care, Dino.

        The vicissitudes of the events of these days cause me to choose between depression and cynicism. I choose the most entertaining......

            I've come to conclude that "frustration" is another word for "indecision." Frustration can be cured by making a decision. I've made mine and, honestly, a lot of frustration has dissipated and I feel more free than I have in years.

            I am not disparaging those that have hopes and dreams and thoughts about what could/should/can be done and I wish them the best and thank them for their efforts and concerns

              The only thing this Alabama dino is currently indecisive about is voting for Luther Strange or Roy Moore tomorrow.
              Trump and the NRA has endorsed Strange.
              But I keep thinking about an irksome anonymous anti-Moore commercial that supposedly has nothing to do with Strange.
              Yeah, right. And I'm Peter Pan.

                Good luck on your decision. I recently heard that Trump supported Strange because of Strange's support before the election and Trump said he may have made a mistake in supporting Strange.

                The endorsement of ‘Big Luther’ could prove to be a big boost for the interim Alabama senator, who is trailing his opponent, former state judge Roy Moore, in some public polls. But even Trump seemed unsure that the endorsement was the right move.

                  That mystery sponsor ad I mentioned made statements I researched.
                  IMO, statements Moore made were deliberately taken out of context. He is even in favor of a 30-round magazine like the 9mm carbine I have in a closet.
                  Moore is for the wall on the Mexican border. His statements that the military needed to be there now and we couldn't have a wall around the country were twisted around to "prove" Moore didn't want a wall at all.
                  For a week I've been swaying from one candidate to the other but I think you can tell who I'm having a growing trust issue with.

                          I have an Alabama fan brother who went to USC.
                          Then he got a job there "running the store" in his own words.
                          From there he retired and now lives in Delaware with an old girlfriend.
                          He's the only lib of my four brothers.

                            Interesting family. My loyalty to USC is only because, as a senior in high school, I got a telegram (real one) from John McKay hoping I would choose USC to play football. No scholarship offer. That came from Baylor, 4-years, no cut, flew me down to Waco, went coon hunting (me, a surfer from Redondo Beach!) but turned it down because I was " in love." (first mistake because of hormones and a woman).
