What? Self-control among elected officials?

I completely agree with the sentiment. Unfortunately, integrity is best described as how people act when no one else is around and the vast majority of politicians simply don't have it because the people as a whole don't have it. Honesty as a basic characteristic is gone from public life.

The danger posed in a society ruled by law is when those who are charged with enforcing the law become corrupt, self serving careerists. Corruption isn't necessarily connected to cash, but more often to power.

One personal example that stands out to me is a case I was involved in with a federal grand jury. The prosecutor was a minority female, obviously eager to chalk up another "win" for her career advancement. In the pre-procedure interview, she tried to bully me into giving false testimony, and I reported her for attempted suborning perjury. Unfortunately, no recording devices are allowed in those interviews, so when the prosecutor denied she solicited false testimony the judge took her at her word. The judge was particularly motivated because it would be a precedent-setting case, essentially gutting the heart of contract law, and charging someone who demanded adherence to a legal contract with fraud, not because of misrepresentation, but because the customer assumed a different outcome than was represented in the contract.

The innocent target of the grand jury was sent to trial, and wrongly convicted. The appeal was denied, but the transcript of the appeal was appalling. One honest judge said the conviction was based on testimony unsupported by evidence, and the obvious prejudice of the ruling justice, the other two judges essentially agreed with him, but ruled against the appeal because they didn't want to overturn the ruling to hurt the trial judge's career and invalidate such a precedent-setting outcome.

It was in a federal district court in West Virginia, and the appeal was ruled on in a federal appeals court in Virginia. Because the contract was exchanged via the U.S. Postal Service, the charge was mail fraud, brought by a postal inspector with some very bizarre opinions, like contending private ownership of aircraft and cars should be against the law. That inspector supported the prosecutor's effort to suborn perjury, and unashamedly lied to the judge that no such thing happened.

Does this mean he is going to stop using Asset Forfeiture?

I'll applaud along with you - when I see it. Asset Forfeiture according to the Fourth Amendment should only take place after conviction and only as a method to remunerate victims. The way it is being used right now as a budgeting method is nauseating.

    Thanks Blarman
This was what I was taught growing up but reality is far different. "We do not enforce the law among some people, and ignore others based on our own biases, or any other inappropriate considerations. We follow mutual principles. The point of the rule of law is to maintain a fair and rational system, characterized by impartiality and universality. That is, it applies equally to each person".
If he is true to his word HRC and the rest of the cartel will be indicted.

Before you ask that you must first ask why a person runs for public office in the first place. Public office is a position of power over others. From Dogcatcher to President this is the case. In almost every instance the power conferred by public office is easy to abuse. It is important to remember the old adage "Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely." I am reminded of what John Galt said in AS3, "That kind of job shouldn't exist!" You should have that in mind when you vote for anyone.

    Truth Requires Honesty.
Without honesty, no progress by humankind is possible. The moment dishonesty is injected into any subject the entire topic crumbles into dust. Climate change as caused by humans is an outstanding example.

Those that are conscious, have a conscience and connected to a mind most of the time, at least; opposed to those that have not or cannot.

This is truly, the only division within society.
The paradigm is upside down when those that have not... rule those that do.
