Gee and not a word about "man made global warming" or even "Human CO2 generation"..can it be believed?

Dansgaard Ooescher effect In the Northern Hemisphere, they take the form of rapid warming episodes, typically in a matter of decades, each followed by gradual cooling over a longer period. For example, about 11,500 years ago, averaged annual temperatures on the Greenland ice sheet warmed by around 8 °C over 40 years, in three steps of five years (see,[3] Stewart, chapter 13), where a 5 °C change over 30–40 years is more common.

All recorded prior to the internal combustion engine.

I was loving the article until the very last quote where he undermines his own credibility:

"Our study shows just how important Antarctica's ice is to the climate of the rest of the world and reveals how rapid melting of the ice here can affect us all. This is something we need to be acutely aware of in a warming world," Turney said." (emphasis added)

Dude - you just got done looking at evidence that completely undermines AGW and yet you want to add on a "yeah, but" at the end? And you're a scientist?

The name professor Chris Turney, UNSW scientist is mentioned in the article.

"Our study shows just how important Antarctica's ice is to the climate of the rest of the world and reveals how rapid
melting of the ice here can affect us all. This is something we need to be acutely aware of in a warming world" Turney said.

This is none other than Turney of the Antarctic mentioned in this site, with suitable derision.
In Dec2013, after leading a clack of freeloaders to observe the lack of ice in the Antarctic the
ship was trapped by ice, they had to be rescued by icebreakers.

well, while he is probably skewed ( all science data should come with the disclosure of who paid for it) I still found it weird no mention of the evil man made catastrophe was found. This seemed like a good vehicle for it.

I thought the quote of his was sufficient mention ..
climate, warming - the keys words needed for government funding.

Anyway- you raise a good point- what should be the disclosure requirements for a scientific paper?
Who paid- desirable but not essential, however, if it was public money that must be disclosed.
Then, all data and methods must be available, no hiding behind so-called confidentiality.

Exactly, I saw an article where the Weather Channel founder jumped ugly with CNN over this issue and clearly stated that GW was NOT a conclusive, scientifically proven fact, but was a government funded scam where the "97%" were all funded by government and had to produce the required conclusions. Dobrien is on a better line with his solar minimum and maximum theory being a probable cause for GW than CO2. As far as Hurricanes, when everyone who knows nothing, freaks out, they need to look at the history and there are much, much worse storms going back to 1600, the Spanish lost a bunch of gold carrying ships in one in the early 1600s near Cuba and Florida. No CO2 then....

Thanks Nick and I will give a nod to Old ugly Carl for the Grand Solar minimum and EU theory..
First we must define climate: Climate is the statistics of weather over long periods of time. It is measured by assessing the patterns of variation in temperature, humidity, atmospheric pressure, wind, precipitation, atmospheric particle count and other meteorological variables in a given region over long periods of time.

Hurricane season 2017 as bad as the damage is it is all a small piece of data in a climate.
If it surprises folks that hurricanes are part of Texas and Florida weather late summer they are idiots. climate change would mean no hurricanes for those places and good luck with that.

None of this requires massive government control over our lives, nor would that control actually have any good effects. If the earth is going to warm, its going to warm with or without government controls

Agreed. Climate change is real, it was real 100K years ago and it will be real in 100K years in the future. I just do not want some greedy looter trying to make a buck off me in the process and adding blame on top of it. That is pure BS.

They are trying to blame civilization for a few hurricanes that flattened places that shouldn’t have been built up using cheap construction methods, or maybe shouldn’t have been built on at all

That is a very good point, especially when they say "This is worse that the Hurricane of 1854" or some such. Although I did see an article that was bringing up weather warfare and the fact there are a lot of weird coincidences and patterns, but until someone coughs up some facts it is still speculation only.

Our experts are better at weather prediction than before, but even NOW they cant predict hurricane bahavior more than maybe an hour or two in advance. How can we be expected to believe what they say will happen in 2050?

Good point, and if you go to You Tube there is competing videos for who can blame whom for what, weather control, HARP, contrails, the poles flipping, Nibiru....so a tree isn't all that far out there...maybe they need to steal it and go to the Hurricane Center with it....

the article makes initially for interesting reading but that is all. the earth will continue to do what ever the earth does and all of this talk about climate change and how it actually occurs is not understood at this time or will it ever!

Another reminder of how unique our planet is. I can't even recall a description in science fiction of a planet half as diverse as Earth. Pretty much anything you can imagine or ask for you've got, and yet, still much of it is unexplored or even understood. The oceans, for example, fit that description.

Wasn't it believed that the currents were the cause of warmer temperatures in the North Atlantic and that if the currents shut down a great cooling would happen in the North? The article seem to contradict that cooling for a warming with a shutdown of the currents.

"Previously, it was thought the divergences in temperature at opposite poles were driven by changes in the North Atlantic causing deep ocean currents -- referred to as the ocean conveyor belt -- to shut down leading to warming in the Northern Hemisphere and cooling in the Southern Hemisphere."

Yes, that was the theory the Japanese scientist came up with to explain glacial cycles, the conveyor breaks and the warm water does not circulate north making it very cold. After a while, the warm water south begins to creep further and further north causing it to slowly warm again

It looks to me like all this conjecture was correlated with models, and only a couple of data points.
Nice that AGW doesn't feature, but it looks like a huge unsubstantiated hypothesis, like everything in this subject except the calculation of the energy balance from atmospheric constituents, which has been tested and exonerates CO2.
