Folks, if this isn't communism, then what is it? This is a perfect example of when to take a stand. MI's Dept of Agri is obviously full of communists. This should end anyone's idea that we still live in the land of the free.

Good for them! Raw milk is delicious, and natural, and there are good arguments that it's healthier for us than pasteurized and homogenized milk.

Maine, too. I read a story a couple of months ago that an entire town or county was going to allow selling within a co-op frame.

The way the media around here is, you will likely only find it in a local newspaper that covers the area this farm operates in. Mi. has been hit hard by economic times and rightly so, thanks to the poor choices the large voting blocks have made and the large union influence. We have a "republican" governor now but he is not much better than the democrat he replaced. Detroit has a new Mayor and there is some positive movement, but the TV media in the most populated area (southeast) of the state is largely progressive, statist sympathizers. "the government should do something"..."there ought to be a law..." You know the meme...

Damn. What about really local reporting? The county times? Local newspaper? ANYBODY? Or is it TOTAL news blackout? Somebody must be following this, right?

    Good morning UncommonSense,
Our local media channels come mostly out of the Detroit area. They are lap dogs... mindless automatons. They will not investigate or report on those questions.
    Regards,

1200 Free Range Eggs were mortally wounded...from the words of Col. Walter E. Kurtz of Apocalyse Now: "The horror, the horror." :)

On the other hand, I'd love to know the answers to your 2nd and 3rd questions. I'd like to know what follow up actions the true victims here are going to do. Perhaps the biggest challenge for them is, finding a judge that hasn't been "bought" by the state communists who'll actually listen to their case and objectively rule based on logic & common sense.

it's like the state law here in TN which was recently debated --
permission to openly carry a firearm in public.

I asked why we need permission. if I want to take
my gun out into the yard, I do. screw 'em. -- j

I don't think it's the number of people involved that is the issue for the government, or for judging whether the government action is moral. It's actually illegal to sell raw milk in many states, and some people try to get around it by using these co-ops. In Florida, we can legally buy raw milk for "pet food" only. I think it's ridiculous that state governments assume the right to forbid us from selling or consuming any type of food. So, I've got my opinion formed, and my rant ready.

This harkens back to the Great Depression, when people starved and FDR's Agriculture Department ordered the mass slaughter of livestock and poultry to keep their prices up. You can take all the wisdom of government, put it in a thimble, and still have room for a good size thumb.

The MI's Dept of Agri should be held accountable for each egg destroyed.

To me, it does not matter how many people make a co-op. I still don't see the need for a license. What happened to people taking responsibility for their actions. That includes their purchases. Don't buy if you don't have enough info to trust.

That's probably a wise choice. I think a full-blown investigation (FBI?) into the people running the MI Dept of Agri needs to happen. Time for those SOB's to pucker.

Despicable. Who was hurt? Who complained and brought it to the authorities attention? Which competitor... large entity using the power of pull. What else is distressing is that here in Michigan the media has not reported the story. Typical...

Is there a set number of people that can be involved in a co-op before it would be considered a business with shareholders?

I’m thinking 248 gallons of milk produced daily is a bit much for a small community co-op. There isn’t enough information and detail about this story to form an opinion. The pictures and images of all those eggs and milk going to waste is awful. Yet, I still feel I can’t work up rant yet. Need more info.
