Discarded Banana Peel Causes Racial Tension At Ole Miss

I suppose Education is the appropriate category for this modern day snowflake silliness. Me dino did first consider Humor and News as options.
Has anyone in the Gulch ever heard of a banana as a fruit used to demean black people?
Only one fruit comes to my long time a Deep South resident dim dino mind and I now actually feel hesitant to write it.
So do I dare?
Well, of course, I dare. I'm the dino.
It's still scary, though.
Okay, here it comes.
I'm taking deep breaths now.
Oh, this is so scary.
I'll--I'll cuh-cuh-count to thru-thru-three.
One. Two. Three--GO!
A WATERMELON!

It is funny. It is humor, BUT
    it is real.
We have come to a point in this country where a banana peel is a threat to be taken seriously? It is, at best, an object of derision, not a symbol of racial hatred. We are becoming a nation of snowflakes who when getting a broken pinky finger stays home for two weeks until it is all better.A sidelong glance becomes a look of hatred. Whatever happened to America?

"Don't bother to examine a folly -- ask yourself only what it accomplishes." The significance isn't the banana or whatever they imagined it to symbolize or the juvenile hysteria over it. The university officials are joining in the hysteria and pandering to it, just as they did at Middlebury College and the sites of many other student riots. What they have "accomplished" is the supremacy of emotional anti-reason as the standard, and that is what is happening to America and western civilization.

There's a fruit store on our street
    It's run by a Greek.
And he keeps good things to eat
But you should hear him speak!
When you ask him anything, he never answers "no".
He just "yes"es you to death, and as he takes your dough
    He tells you
    "Yes, we have no bananas
    We have-a no bananas today.
    We've string beans, and onions
    Cabbageses, and scallions,
And all sorts of fruit and say
We have an old fashioned to-mah-to
    A Long Island po-tah-to
But yes, we have no bananas.
    We have no bananas today."
Yes we have no bananas we have no bananas today we have snow flakes and fools .

Universities are devolving from higher education to nurseries . Coddling these cry babies does nothing to prepare them for the real world where people don't give a shit what color anyone is , it is what value can you bring to the table.

OK, so the guy threw a banana peel into a tree because he couldn't find a trash can. Instead of apologizing to the snowflakes, he should have said something like, "Are you people nuts? Get a grip and get a life." Then I wonder what this says about the way that the Blacks think about themselves. They seem to be hung up on racial stereotypes more than anyone else.

In that guy's place, me dino would be sorely tempted to ask, "Have you people gone bananas?" just to enjoy the wails and gnashing of snowflake teeth.
Then I suppose George Soros would pay Antifa to come beat me up.

These are not snowflakes. They are barbarians, ignorant savages with clubs, out to hunt down the witches and kill anyone who knows anything not in their primitive world.

With savages you have three choices; run, try to placate them or kill them. We have tried running, but they have followed as we have retreated. We are still trying placating. Soon they will give us no choice but to kill them.

Why I am concealed carry. I'm not not going to look for trouble by attending any stupid protest. But should any young men try to put their hands on this limping along 70-year-old for any reason, they shall receive a 9mm shock of their bullying lives.

This sounds like a parody on fake news to me.
    Could anyone be this stupid?
( If so, I hope that was offensive.)

Yes, they can. I'm sure that you watch the news, so you know how really dumb this country is getting.

No, I haven't watched the news in about 24 years. The reporting in 1993 on Waco cured me of my addiction to government propaganda.
At least 50% of the voters were smart enough to reject Hitlery. They had to reject the propaganda to do that. As for the other 50%, they get "all due respect."

The mental status and composure of people in this country is very concerning. It seems to me like the pressure is rising, so much so that I had to execute plan B and remove myself (from Chicago). I go to a village of less than 400 and just yesterday I got to watch a domestic dispute with an older woman beating a teenage boy in the backyard. There was despair on the part of the boy and anger and vengeance on the part of the woman. County cops showed up 15 minutes later. The only observation I have is that pressure is rising. I was kinda glad to see a broom stick and metal pole as weapons instead of what Chicagoans prefer.

Me dino was wondering if what I was reading is for really really real when I first read the article.
Then I recalled safe zones for grown up voting age college students along with all the PC Micky Mouse nonsense.
So I just decided to go with the current flow of some people being that stupid.
These days they even go to schools of higher learning to be even move stupid.

Sure looks like a parody, but there's a link to the Daily Mississippian in the Townhall article that makes it pretty clear it's real.

If you go to that link and read through it, it turns out this isn't complete snowflake idiocy. There had been an incident at the same school where bananas were hung from trees in nooses. My guess is, the kid who hung the peel had that incident in mind and thought what he did was funny. And it would be, to anyone with a skin thicker than rice paper.

It may have been intentional, but it is just button pushing if it is. Big problem is it immediately validates the control the flakes have established, one little "offense" can get anything changed, stopped, started. Next up is "The conservatives scare me", Poof. Banned from campus. The Colorado thing was almost the same type of deal, but was directed at vets, and was a faceless thing, but take it to OLe Miss and have a black Sorority nimrod whine, and Poof, all vets, OFF CAMPUS, you are scaring the little ones....

Nope, it really happened: The president of one sorority told the newspaper that "bananas have historically been used to demean black people." This has gotten so frigging out of control, it is almost sick making now. At first their little "I'm offended" ws funny, but now it is getting to the point of lunacy, and THEY BELIEVE IT. I am getting tired of saying "MLK, MLK, character, character..get over the color crap" It's like you cannot say or do anything without little looters showing up telling you why you owe them for anything and everything.....

Yet nowhere in the press reports, even in the those sympathetic to the hysteria, do we see a description of exactly how "bananas" are believed to "demean blacks" or how that would justify the hysterical reaction to the banana peel that missed the trash can. This is more fundamental than even the race obsession -- emotions driving their behavior without even a pretense of rationality are regarded as the standard. You are to somehow anticipate and avoid emotionally 'offending' the privileged 'protected classes', which by their standards is impossible. And when you inevitably do, you must bow and scrape with apologies, which are not accepted and not to be expected to be accepted. Facts and reason don't matter. All you can do is shut up and say and do nothing in the 'self censorship' of dhimmitude towards the 'protected classes' of 'ethnic' emotionalists.

The root of political correctness (which is the term created to describe such behavior), which we have allowed to infest our society and justifies this type of silly behavior.

Can someone please explain to me why I shouldn't think of our educational system as a non-functioning educational system (I use the words educational system in a very broad sense here). the teacher obviously doesn't know or understand that the earth or the creatures living on or in the earth would have done away with the banana peel quickly and the students (?) who saw it seem to live with a mind set that anything they see can be applied senselessly. welcome to the new teaching in the USA.

I love watermelon: and being a quarter Irish born on St. Patrick's Day, I'm also fond of corn beef and cabbage.
Stegosaurus is also good eating but awfully filling.

Now I am hungry for corned beef hash with eggs over easy and a little Caucasian sauce.

I wonder what they think of fried chicken, possum jowls and pigs feet?..not to mention, a couch and refrigerator on the front lawn, cotton or a numbered 'T' shirt on the wall...Maybe just being a southerner means your a different race...what will they think of next.

It would be appropriate if they thought of democrats in government as a different race...they are nothing like the rest of us, parasitically inclined, can't learn squat, hate real history.

That seems to be more of a difference than a minuscule amount of a chemical that determines one's skin color.

1997 In a taped interview that was shown on CNN , Zoeller called Woods a ''little boy'' and urged him not to request fried chicken and collard greens at next year's Champions Dinner at the Augusta National Club. In an initial apology on Monday, and again yesterday, Zoeller said he was joking.

Sergio and Woods had been feuding , Garcia asked if he would invite Tiger for dinner during the US open He said sure every night and have fried chicken for him.

So when I go to the grocery store the next time, I'm going to have a type written note ready to put on the banana display. It will say, "Beware! Purchasing bananas is racist. Buy watermelon instead." Of course the snowflakes will see no humor in this. I hope that Meijer's has a safe place for them.

I was raised in rural Virginia, in the days of segrega-
tion. Not being black, I don't know how black people
saw the fruit issue, but I was unaware of bananas
being identified with black people. Watermelon,
possibly. I was unaware of the banana issue until that news report came out.

Although this is an apocryphal quote attributed to Freud, it seems to apply here: "Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar." I had never heard of discarding a banana in a tree, but a friend of mine says he does it if there is no available trash can. At least it's organic and will decompose quickly.

I am so DONE with the entitled black culture. So many black people are entitled now that I am feeling a desire to just avoid black people altogether. I think Obama created this massive increase in entitlement unfortunately in the population at large and especially in the black culture.

I think it’s time for each black person to just get over what happened to their granddaddy and great granddaddy and get on with life today

Call me racist, xenophobic or whatever. I prefer some cultures and dislike others and don’t see anything wrong with it. Generalizations and profiling is simply a tool to more efficiently and effectively interact with large numbers of strangers.

Nope Term, I have black friends I work with, and respect, and I still run into the entitled ones. I ignore them, but my friends are good people, who are smart, work hard and are very considerate of others. This is just as bad as letting 23 white supremacists define the entire 100 million whites in America. Utter BS. I usually resort to the MLK statement, and a lot of times they shut up, risking a breakdown at having to figure out if the can blaspheme their hero, and at the same time be a whiny POS, it doesn't go together.

It is entirely possible for someone to be black and still be a reasonable person. But the overwhelming percentage of black people seem to subscribe to the entitlement fostered by Obama.

I would try to correct your conetention that...."the overwhelming percentage of black people seem to subscribe to the entitlement fostered by Obama." By pointing out that the majority of what we see written or spoken on TV is due to a small minority of spokespeople. For instance the race-baiters like Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton. Or the white guilting Democrat oligarchy who are trying to use this as a political issue. However the fact of the matter is that a true majority of the black community has been led down the Primrose path to the notion that things like this really are racism. So unfortunately I will have to wholly agree with your contention.

I will have to add to my contention that there are geographical differences I have noticed. I live in Las Vegas, and the entitlement is rampant here, as it was in California. However, I visited Atlanta and I would say there is less entitlement there. I would attribute that to an appreciation that I noticed to being treated like any other person. That probably comes from the fact that there are still remnants of a previous white culture to treat blacks differently. My nature has always been to initially treat all people the same, and when I did that, I found the blacks quite pleasant. Such a difference from the west coast, where the blacks have the racist chip on their shoulder no matter how you treat them.

Viewing people as groups, esp based on their physical features, is such awful nonsense.

Its a matter of whether you have time to get to know each person and judge them on that basis- or NOT. In a small town or within a group of friends, I would not need to generalize. But in a big city where I might interact with perhaps 1000 people out of a population of several million, initial generalizations are quite effective, although indeed some of the good people are missed if they are exceptions to the generalizations used.

It also is never limited to a race thing, it is any ethnicity, sexual orientation, hair color, age group. The education system has programmed the younglings to think in terms of "I'm special", and I am (fill in you specialness), almost immediately followed by "And I am discriminated against". That opens the door to the Clinton/Bernies who "feel their pain" and will "fix everything if you vote for me".
