I was given this as a gift in 2008. It had no instructions so I don't even know what kind it is. This is the 1st time it's bloomed since the blooms it came with died. Anyone know what kind it is?

I only thought such things were more equatorial and rain-forest based. Not out in the deep, dark woods.

I find little gems like this... and think... yes... I'm HOME!

Apparently, my walls were warped to blue (yours remained white) and the warp changed the grain in my cabinets. However, the counter tops made the trip perfectly ... those and some of the knickknacks... (It _is_ scary.)

I have had trouble keeping the things alive - until we moved. I had one in my bathroom (looks nothing like yours, sorry!) that thrived.

Then I went out tot he "back yard" to our sunflower patch... and saw (of all things) orchids blooming out there between the sunflowers. If you had told me that orchids grew wild up here, I would have told you no way. Now... I have a field of the things starting.

No idea. but congratulations on your green thumb -- and your patience. Orchids need patience. (Why are you in my kitchen? I could send you snapshots to prove it.)
