I encourage everyone to read the stuff at NCPA.org. It is the best I've seen in dealing with what health care should be in a free market system.

Actually government meddling cause the mess. Healthcare was a trick used by companies to secure skilled workers during WWII when wages and prices were frozen by FDR. This was a way to pay workers more without actually paying them more. Then move on to Medicare/aide, more government money into the system. When a person doesn't have to pay the full cost the demand curve goes way out.

"Compassion isn’t a sign of weakness, but of civilization…" Well, I have compassion for anyone who makes their own decisions where their healthcare (and anything else) is concerned. If they choose to not go to the Dr. to save money then I think that is their business and it should be respected. If they end up dying because of their free choice then I still respect their choice. It's their life and they can choose how to live it. I don't think buttinski, nosey, "compassion" should trump someone elses free will to choose for themselves. This "civilized compassion" is just a way for others to feel good about "saving" someone else, or guilt-free if someone dies. (AKA feel good bullshit.)
