No, the genetic modification of chloroplasts is being done to scale up production of a pharmaceutical. Sorry, but I'm not allowed to go any further than that.

Agreed completely. So when do you think the stock market bubble will burst?

BTW, one student I co-advise does genetic modification of chloroplasts.

Agree that some GMO foods do not have the side effects of Monsanto's and the baby should not be thrown out with the bath water.
But people should have the information to make the decision and that includes labeling all products containing GMO food products including the source (i.e., Monsanto vs other GMO.)
The stock market is manipulated to keep the "favored" company's stocks stable. $80 billion per month. The DJIA would be at 8000 instead of 17000 if not for the fed's market "assistance."
The depression would have ended by now, and the new credit creation system would be thriving and helping productive small companies create new products and jobs.
    But that is another topic.

I appreciate that there are some issues with GMO foods. However, the benefits of GMO foods far outweigh their issues, and as the article states, Monsanto is ultimately responsible. If they put out a product that does harm to people, their stock price will suffer accordingly.
