Come to Portland instead :-) You'll like it a whole lot better than EITHER of those cities and the weather is better. Lots more to do, see and be. Just my commercial for getting more libertarians to thing about migrating to what SHOULD have been the "Free State Project". You'll have a great time, I'll guarantee it! I'll even take you to a 1920's speak easy with no name on the door, incredible cocktails and no sign of anything from the 21st century in sight...even the music is acoustic.

just saying CS is very conservative, yes likely Cruz, but they also supported Tancredo who is an Independent but basically a libertarian when he ran for governor.

AJ, I recommend Colorado Springs. Denver can be very hot, Co Springs has lots to do and usually you can get somewhere to cool you off outside easier. Boulder is a liberal cesspool that will increase your heart-rate on every corner. If I took a day trip to Denver I'd go to the antique row down S Broadway, Laclede's Landing, Park Meadows Mall. but all the fun stuff is in CS. cave of the winds, trip up Pikes Peak, General Palmers castle, Garden of the Gods, Airforce Academy, Broadmoor, 7 Falls, zoo, Will Roger's Shrine, Manitou Springs...

We have been in Denver several trips this time of year, and it was miserable humid and hot, 90s. I agree with previous writer, Colorado Springs ha a lot to see and do, and plenty of shade! Cheyenne, Wyo. Frontier Days is coming up also. We loed the Granby, CO area also, beautiful with tourist attractions.

For a real adventure you may want to drive up 70 to Georgetown and then through Georgetown to Guanella Pass. You can park there and enjoy the views and even hike along the boardwalk towards Mt. Bierstadt. The wildflowers are great and the first couple miles of the trail are flat. You may even see a moose early in the morning. (Don't actually climb Mt. Bierstadt unless you have proper gear and knowledge of the hazards.)

There are more marijuana dispensaries in Denver than Starbucks. You may want to try a "brownie" as it is legal here. Just be careful to consume a small amount as several tourists have overdone it.

You might want to check with someone local there and ask about the smoke from the fires in Southern Utah and Central California...

Neither Denver or Boulder. Go west to any of the smaller towns in the mountains. Elevation will bring you cooler weather. Estes Park is a great choice but there are many others.

The Colorado Springs area has a lot to offer and is not nearly as hectic as Denver. However, should you wish to visit Denver it is about an hour's ride up I-25. The climate in Colorado Springs is cooler than Denver, because we are about 1500 feet higher. However, beware to take things easy. High altitude sickness is not fun. Drink plenty of water. The cog ride up Pikes Peak is an excellent place to start, but at 14,110 feet it is extremely imperative to be wary of high altitude sickness. They do have oxygen stations on the Peak, if you need it. Visiting the Air Force Academy is the number one attraction in the state. Driving over to Buena Vista puts you adjacent to the spine of the Rockies and has magnificent views as well as hot springs, camp grounds etc. Then there is the Royal Gorge about an hour south of Colorado Springs just outside Canyon City. There is a train that goes up through the gorge and back. I will preface this next part with i am a railroad nut. If you like railroads, the best one to ride is the Cumbres and Toltec. The north end is in Antonito, Colorado and the south end is in Chama, New Mexico. You will need reservations. It is an all day trip. You can take the train south and a bus back the same day, or you can spend the night in Chama and return the following day on the train. Antonito is in the southern end of the San Luis valley in the south central part of the state. In the northern end is the Sand Dunes. And of course in all the small towns there are plenty of shops and many good restaurants along the way. I hope this is of some help.

Agree..but its not entirely my call. My wife is very regimented..she always wants to go to California to see the ocean. Driving, car, need to be limited to tolerable distances (14 hours is pushing it). I've driven a portion of Rt. 66 and liked it very much. I've heard its been even more restored than when I visited it a decade or so ago. Even so, I have little interest in staying in the heat of Az (or New Mexico) any more than I have to. We're looking for a complete change of atmosphere and the south western states (Az, NM, SO.CAL, S.Utah, Nevada) aren't going to deliver that.

I promised myself I'd go parachuting when I turn 80. I figure if my heart gives or something happens and I die I have no complaints. :) A tall building is about the height or my height attraction. :)

AJA - How about for something different, take up powered paragliding or powered parachute. One can then make their own entertainment and the sky's the limit. Or how about a tour down Route 66. Getting popular and lots of history to see, though maybe touristy in places. Get a Harley or Goldwing and make your own destination. A heck of a way to see the country.

Wyoming is a bit of a hike (Colorado is a 14 hour ride). I avoid air travel because I don't like being felt up by men and watching my family begin accosted. I figure NW and CO are the nearest neighbor and I should explore a bit. Wyoming is intriguing though. Perhaps next year with a little pre-planning.

mia767@aol.com ....my wife and I are working in Yellowstone National Park this summer....Fishing Bridge general store at the employee RV park....temp is 50 in the morning and 75 in the afternoon at 8,000 ft elevation...we have two bison who are mowing our grass everyday...the park campgrounds and hotels are sold out for the rest of the summer, but there are a handful of spots available in the RV campgrnd for $15/nite....7 nite max...if interested let me know and I can confirm dates for you...we are 80 miles west of Cody....john & Beverly...
