Does politics ruin rational thinking?

A friend on this site believes that people cannot be argued out of something they weren't argued into. Does this article support that, or is it just twisting research to advance an agenda? Suggest clicking through and reading the original study, paying particular attention to the sampling and methodology.

very interesting study. Ultimately, we do not accept reason as the standard for making political decisions(on both sides). All the data in the world doesn't matter if reason is not the standard for deciding the right course. The Hume quote at the end of the article seems to support my assertion. After reading about a study that shows even highly math literate people are biased in looking at data, we sum up that reason isn't all its cracked up to be. nice.
