      I apologize but I won 't listen to the debate. Stephen Kinsella has proven to not use reason and logic in one major area and I will not support his work.

        Your entry was confused and confusing, as is much that you post off the top of your head. Would you please clarify and elaborate? You once said that you would kill your own adult daughter to ensure your own happiness. Did I misunderstand your statement there? I am disappointed (but not surprised) that you "will not listen to the debate." Does that mean that in other words, your mind is made up and you will not be confused by the facts?

          Quit being an ass and taking my comments out of context. I had actually made a comment to add to the discussion but it looks like it didn 't post. Basically, most physical punishment occurs when the parent is angry and frustrated. It only achieves obedience (likely but not always) . It does not promote thinking logically nor demonstrate logical behavior. But I also include excessive punishment of other kinds in that. I have witnessed parents who are so strict their kids rarely make a conscious decision before balancing it against privilege loss at home, it 's almost like the parents get off on the control.

            We seem to agree on the essentials. In our home we never used corporal punishment. We tolerated a lot of disobedience. Everyone makes their own choices. If any of that punishment and discipline nonsense actually worked, the Western world would still be Catholic ... or, heck, Roman Olympian... You can offer your best reasons, but little else. In terms of that "little else" though, parents _do_ have a responsibility. We used cartoons, mostly from the New Yorker, for moral lessons: WHY THERE ARE PARENTS: "... No, you cannot camp out over night in Central Park...." I also liked Calvin and Hobbs. (Calvin: "You are going to be lonely in that nursing home." Dad: "Good. Then maybe I can finish reading this book.")

    I voted this back Up and voted khalling Down. I believe that this discussion is worth having. It is cogent because it questions the basic assumptions of most people. I mean, OK, maybe whacking your kid upside the head is needed. Maybe spanking them will not make them D and B Erotic. Maybe... maybe not.... but we should discuss this.
