Worldwide hack blame game: Microsoft vs NSA

So where does the blame lie? As a developer, I know how hard it is to make hack-proof code, but Microsoft's status as the top desktop OS does make it the prime target - the most visible punching bag for many years. So does Microsoft have a higher standard to uphold? Does the government have a case to make that finding security vulnerabilities is part and parcel of anti-terrorism operations?

Ransomware is nothing new, it goes back many years and has only got a bit more sophisticated. I've had clients effected, some actually, foolishly, paid the ransom ($300) before talking to me. A small amount of thought usually prevents the infection from ever occurring. Ransomware is something you have to voluntarily accept and allow to install. Its a deceptive attack and you may not know what it is at the time, you may think it something else.

Waiting to see isn't the solution, its the death rattle.

The best solution for the infected, do a MS roll back to a week before infection BEFORE the ransomware matures and encrypts your data.

"That could saddle (MSFT) with the XP albatross for many years past when it hoped to be free from having to maintain the software. "
    Albatross?
Calling the best product that MSFT ever created an albatross doesn't change the truth. If MSft had created a better product (without privacy intrusion by MSFT) after XP they would not have the problem of customers still using XP.
MSFT deserves to shoulder the cost of supporting the problem they created for themselves. Or will the taxpayers next have to bail them out because of the actions of the NSA?
