Ever since I got my Ph. D. in molecular biology, I've struggled to do science without government funding. This blog is the result of that struggle. If you've ever wanted to do science in your kitchen, or show your children the amazing circumstances behind historical discoveries, Ice Dynamo can help.

Wow. Looks like a Jesuit law school - yuk. Having gone to one I am not impressed.

I was lucky to have my few IP courses taught by adjunct faculty and therefore there was not of this nonsense.

I added your blog to my Top Sites. The way the Macintosh OSX works, if you change anything on your site, when I look at my Top Sites, your has one corner folded down. I see right away that you have new content.

I'm flattered! I'm honestly embarrassed that I didn't know about your blog earlier. I'm so grateful that it exists; one of my family members is a 2L, and just took an IP class. It was heartbreaking to see the class describe patents as "unnecessary evils."

Thank you for your kind words. I love that passage; idea of a thought frozen into physical form is one of the most beautiful images I've ever read.

Excellent post on Charles Brush. I would love to repost it on my blog www.hallingblog.com which deals with patents and inventions. Of course with attribution to you and a link to your blog.

I really enjoyed your post (well-written), ribbens and subscribed to your blog. I am interested in your goals for the blog and hope you post your entries to the Gulch. I especially loved the part where you referenced your favorite author:

"The machine, the frozen form of a living intelligence, is the power that expands the potential of your life by raising the productivity of your time. If you worked as a blacksmith in the mystics’ Middle Ages, the whole of your earning capacity would consist of an iron bar produced by your hands in days and days of effort. How many tons of rail do you produce per day if you work for Hank Rearden? Would you dare to claim that the size of your pay check was created solely by your physical labor and that those rails were the product of your muscles? The standard of living of that blacksmith is all that your muscles are worth; the rest is a gift from Hank Rearden."
I look forward to your success with it-

Thanks! I grew up in Cleveland and knew the name Charles Brush and associated it with the arc lamp, but never knew the story.
