Dang, this failed post actually picked up a hit.
You never know what will take off and what won't.
Having seen others fly high, I don't worry about it.

Used to pass thru Opp on my way from Atlanta to Pensicola--also "blue's old stand". Ran over a possum and blew a thread bare tire at 9pm 0ne night. A farmer answered the door of his place with a shot gun and a lantern. We were in our NAVCAD suits and he told us he used to be in the Navy himself and drove into Opp and woke up a garage owner who sold us another used tire. Farmer helped us change the tire and we made to Mainside before our liberty expired. Folks are like that in the South.

There's a lot of good folks out in the country. In my Birmingham area you need to watch your back.
I may have passed through Opp once on my way to New Orleans during the 70s but I can't remember. I grew up in Dothan and was close to Opp as this map shows~
              http://www.wrhammons.com/opp-alabama-...
~but I never had a reason to drive over there.
My folks having a place by a lake a half hour past the Florida line may have had something to do with that.
When in high school, I was visited by Connecticut cousins who were highly amused for seeing a town called "Opp" on an Alabama state road map.

I remember reading about a waaay pre internet scam that used the e-mail of old - Popular Mechanics ad pages. You purchased the 3 line ad (along with hundreds of others) that read " How to get rich! Send $1 and a SASE to this address" When you did, you received in the mail - in the envelope and stamp you paid for, a slip of paper that simply read "get a good job" It was legal, as you received something from the advertiser for the money sent. Times hav` nt changed much, just the speed and number of fools to be parted with their dough.( **edit, got my post mixed up with my pre...old aqe)

Thanks, if I ever need money I'll start that up again. I suppose you could post a "Fund Me" on the internet telling people to just send you money for personal use, you will get nothing in return, just a good feeling that you helped some stranger buy a new boat, or a new car, or maybe a house.

I was never very happy with my glasses that could look through girls clothing either. Maybe I was just using them wrong.

Of course I only saw the "Magic Glasses" ad in Popular Mechanics, or maybe Popular Science. Those were my favorite magazines back in the 50's. Today they are unreadable, the artistic presentations today with small and fancy print over drawings and photographs. I can hardly read a word. Used to be great magazines, I particularly remember an old article about computers. It predicted what a computer for home might look like. It was a monster.

Groping at my memory, I think what I saw was called X-Ray Glasses. If it was the same thing, I don't know.
LOL! After I wrote what I wrote above, it occurred to me to try an look it up. Bingo! In the link below, that ad is on top of other junk I saw in comic books~

Thank you for the research. Honor House, I think someone should make it a comeback. I think it would actually sell. College professors could make a killing today selling this stuff again. Heck I might even order a pair of the X-Ray Glasses just incase they've made some real improvements.

More recent cons are just reflections of the snake oil salesmen of the past with a technological twist.

Everybody's got a system, cleaver one's too but if their systems were so wonderful, why not give it and take a small token of profit until your wares have proven themselves.
Many have a twist...an hours lone video that starts off good...I'll show you this or that but first, let me tell ya about myself...don't know about you, but I just don't care; nor do I care about all the fake testimonies...get to the chase.
Or, how about every time you enter a search...golly! topping the list is a giant Sale on what your looking for?...The question is, how can you sell the meaning of the phrase I just typed in?
And last but not least, (I sure they'll come up with something else) what about those adds that capture attention just above the comment section of an article you just read...have you noticed that the picture of the person or event is never present in the slide show your lead to? Like the one about the dumbest president, the photo showing obobo...your hoping to find out his IQ right?...not there, they don't even mention obobo nor do the show you the half naked pretty girl in the click on photo.

Don't even think they'll go away if you never click on anything for the rest of your life...they will show up when least expected again.

Electronic toilet paper anyone? singing the praises of something or another while you wipe!

Way back during the 70s when a PC or a cell phone was the stuff of science fiction, scams came in the US mail.
I read first send us money promises of always printed with all caps 'UNTOLD RICHES!" several times. Thus the title.

Some wag signed my dad for some info on a Charles Atlas fitness course (presumably because, like the ad showed, a beach bully kicked sand in his face. They started at $50 for the course and kept reducing the price in subsequent mailings until they finally reached $5 at which point my dad sent them the $5 just to shut them up. He got a mimeographed pamphlet that advised him, among other measures, to wrap an ice cold rag around his testicles--at which point he threw out the whole blessed mess.

Please send me the info, I'd like to get in on the action, everyone needs one, or at least a little box. I know that because my primary care physician at the VA told me that the mortality rate for human beings is 100%. But please wait a few days, I've got someone working in my computer from India trying to fix some bug that was reported to them by my modem. I think they said they were from Microsluff or something like that so it must be completely ligit. They expect to have it fixed anytime now for well under $600 plus updates. My father-in-law had sent a lot of money off shore to process the millions of dollars that he had won just before his death. I think he died of starvation. What I don't understand is why our Congress can't shut it off, other countries can shut off the entire internet, but we can't shut off theft and child porn? Bul_s_it! This is something else that should go to the vote of the people, not just some lawyer saying that stopping internet theft violates someone's rights. Here we go again extending our constitutional rights to criminals from other countries. Are you kidding me?
