Thank you, Arizona. I've been reading horror stories about greedy asset forfeitures for years, such as Junior smokes weed in Granny's car and Granny loses her car.
Way back during the 90s, I watched a TV news special about Louisiana cops specializing in the confiscation of luxury cars on Highway 10, which extends from Mississippi to Texas and passes through New Orleans.
A camera crew rode in such a car. Already stopped a couple of times with no DUI or drugs to be detected, I recall "Here comes another one" being said as a cop car pulled onto the interstate behind its sought juicy prize.
The cop actually lied about a favorite charge of an "improper lane change" with no lane change on film and the speed limit strictly obeyed.
I don't recall what happened in traffic court but I doubt there were any guilty verdicts with fines to be paid.

[Sarcasm]Hey. Don't you know you're only supposed to post negative stories here? That narrative is the world is going to worms, and maybe that's okay because things are so godawful bad that really any change would be an improvement.[/Sarcasm]
I love the phrase "equitable sharing" in the last line of the article. Asset forfeiture is maybe a step up from a gang of highwaymen that split their loot.
