A poster boy for the political class. I understand his point, but he is the political equivalent to Oscar at United. Whether you like it or not, you are elcted and represent ALL the people of your district, even the snowflakes and Democrats, until they find a way to toss you out. But you do not tell them they are irrelevant because you graciously pay enough in taxes to fund yourself....

Salary is the least concern I have for people in political office. Their spending far exceeds their salaries, that is the problem.

Voodoo, I would think that you have part of it., there are certainly agents provocateur planting themselves in these meeting, which is why these politicians need to learn to deal with them on an intellectual basis, any argument can be effectively negated with logic, but they also make their beds with wanting their meetings to be 30 min yes/no sessions because they really do not want to be there at all.

This guy obviously handled this badly. However, I've been on the wrong end of these liberal lynch mobs and you get to the point where you become extremely tired of condescending, educated-beyond-their-intelligence zealots who WILL NOT accept anyone's opinion but their own. You have to constantly remind yourself that this is only 10% (or less) of the populace producing 95% of the noise. In my case, I tried to reduce government, both in size and cost. Those folks did not like that attitude at all!

a Congrssional representative represents not only ALL his constituents, but, more importantly, the Constitution, and all those who have served to protect this country and the ideals of liberty and freedom and the necessity to pass on what the previous generations handed to him to protect...

Now THAT is probably true. I do not know the actual numbers, but I believe your statement. Yet, they just cannot tear away from the teat and go feed on their own...

Simply said the guy blew it. Anyone insensitive enough to try and make the argument that he made is destined to lose the next election. I'll bet it doesn't help his plumbing business either.

I think that you, gentlemen, generalize way too much. Majorities and minorities have existed since ever and always will. Our Founding Fathers devised a constitutional system of government that handles all that better than any.

I think that three factors contributed to the present "climate" of political discourse.

    1. There has been a long creep of collectivist socialist ideology, in part a price for the "original sin" of allowing slavery in this country.

    2. The enormous increase, based on technology, in the overall volume ("loudness") of "conversation" and the enabling of huge numbers of poorly educated people, and thus poor thinkers, to be heard.

    3. The fact is that the collectivist socialist ideology is a failure became understood by ever increasing number of people. That made the "losers" emotionally disturbed, as they thought that they won the future. So, they scream their emotions.

    Just my thoughts, respectfully submitted.

Democrats have been planning to disrupt Republican town hall meetings for some time now. They are told to go in quietly and spread out in the audience. After the meeting starts they shout down the speaker. Some are paid to do this just like rioting in the streets after the election.

He is right, but not for the reason he gave. Look up the US budget and you will see every $ the US takes in every year goes to pay the interest on the debt. Not one $ goes to support the gov. Same for your income taxes. His salary and every $ the gov. uses is borrowed from the Federal Reserve and must be paid back plus interest. A huge Ponzi scheme that will fail leaving you and me destitute.

Be assured, not the only state with that problem, it is the same in Washington and Oregon. A few concentrated power blocks control the whole state.

"you graciously pay enough in taxes to fund yourself" So what came first?, our money to pay his salary so he could pay taxes to fund himself or his salary to pay back in taxes our money that gave him his salary in the first place...either way...he is accountable to his constituents an Not Privileged in doing so.

"Life is pain, Highness. Anyone who says differently is selling something."
    - The Princess Bride

Discontent can be expressed with tolerance, however. Sadly, what most people are turning away from is polite political discourse and sharing of ideas. I look at the recent Town Hall meetings many Representatives try to hold only to turn into a complete fiasco of organized shouting. That's not productive for anyone.

It would be great if there were more people who actually engaged their grey matter on their issues instead of solely their emotions and zombie parrot skills. I think that it is a telling part of our nation's future course that things have been agitated to this level. At some point a correction is going to happen and unfortunately I don't believe it is going to be a peaceful one.

Which would seem to be a fatal flaw in our system, when "Freedom" (ie.laws you can live with) are good for 51% of the country. Something better is needed, or a modification is required. 49% discontented is an issue.

What we lost, temperance and tolerance of differing viewpoints. That is spot on. The blame can be pointed in many directions Starting with the lefts subjective goals and the rights failure to get out in front of an issue. The biased point of view feed to the masses by the news media and entertainment inds
The division now, is not so much the states as with in most urban vs rural areas. The fighting approach today will be more the way of the IRA. Frightful because the division is almost 50/50 and in many cases households and families.

While what you say is true, his legitimate wage is still paid by public tax dollars. Regardless of who he/she whores his/her office/influence to he's still employed by the public and, at least legitimately, paid from tax dollars. The fact that he pays more in taxes means nothing as long as he cashes the checks from his job. Arrogance.

That's an interesting sentiment, but if followed, would involve the representative voting "Present" on nearly everything. Yes, they represent a geographical area, but no man can serve two masters - or two ideologies.
