Well, it is amazing that when people who have a working relationship, abuse that relationship by "just not showing up", the other party to the relationships says "it's over" and it is news...sounds like business to me. Maybe they need some free pub;ic education to explain basics like when you have a job you need to show up, unless ( fill in here).

Younger employees will eventually learn that business does not exist to provide employment. Unfortunately, in any socialist state (e.g., the current US) those who do learn will have to pay to support those who don't learn and everyone will suffer as a result.

Yep, but your point is valid, too many people seem to think their job is on their terms, and if they decide to go to work, fine, if not, fine, and then they freak out when they find out your job comes with no guarantees, and when you do not show up, your usefulness is seriously dimished. I liked the painting guys answer of "we have committed contracts requiring completion by a certain date". Duh, I am sure whoever contracted you would just say, "Oh, go ahead and be late, your people need to go protest". really...

I heard the TV news report on that story. I can only assume the fired employees were trying to get some public goodwill to perhaps shame their employer into capitulating to giving them their jobs back. However, if it were me, I would have at least used English, as the station had to translated the statement giving by one of the fired employee. It is so galling that these people believe they are so 'owed' that they don't feel the need to at least use the native language of the country they have invaded.

",,,I would have at least used English..." Then why don't you? The last part of this sentence has THREE grammatical errors! (1) "...the station had to translated..." , (2) "...the statement giving by...", and (3) "...one of the fired employee."

Rift, remember the Progressive policy is to "celebrate" all forms of people, and that means allowing them freedom to do anything they want including speak their language. If it isn't understandable, then it is obviously YOUR fault, because you were not open minded enough to learn Spanish, Swahili, Portuguese etc... Yet I am willing to bet the same people who want us to do it, hire only English speaking immigrant slaves for their own servants...

Liberals always have to attempt to control the narrative. The issue isnt immigrants, its illegal immigrants.

That's beside the point here; the employees would deserve firing no matter how worthy the cause.

Still, I see no moral rule requiring anyone to comply with the outrageous, silly runaround and pile of contradictions it takes to legally immigrate to the US. Make the issue about the welfare state rather than immigration, and maybe something constructive will be done about the real problem. The position "it's illegal immigrants" will only lead the tyrant to loosen the reins of the police even further than now. I don't expect the result to be good from the standpoint of anyone on this list.

I find disturbing the anti-sovereignty open border sentiment espoused by objectivists; quite shocking really. I've discussed my perspective here ad nauseam too many times, it all come back to the individual and private property and the right of ownership to do with your property what you will.

Its our door (American's), if you want to come in you meet our criteria. Its not hard nor is the criteria open for debate outside of our house (so to speak)..

I agree AJ, I believe the borders are the equivalent to your front door. The proponents of the immigration thing would have all of us "peasants" open our front door to anyone who "needs it", irregardless of whether we want visitors or not. There is an established process to allow people in, and all the "immigrants" that keep saying it should be open and unfettered because their parents came in or whatever, miss the point that they went through the system. In their little pea sized world, it doesn't matter if they are going through the system or not, it is just the matter of "letting anyone in". When they have to pay 50% more in taxes to give them food, shelter and medical care, it is a different story, I would suspect. But that isn't today, so it is not a problem...

The Tulsa restaurant owner had an employee agreement that was very specific: if you plan to be absent, call ahead of time so that we can substitute during your absence. The Day Without Immigrants participants in his employ didn't call in, simply not showing up for work, and were fired for not abiding by the agreement. To their credit, the fired employees said he had been a very fair boss, and that they realized they violated the agreement, but had been hoping for just a reprimand. It didn't seem to occur to them that they were being unfair and disrespectful for putting the restaurant in a stressful situation. It's rough being a social justice warrior.

It would appear that those who protested by not coming to work expected "A Day Without Immigrants" to morph into "A Day Without Consequences."

Glad to see that was not so!

Amazing how the Progressives believe you should be able to do anything you want "to protest", yet all the real workers and producers "must support them" or be penalized and castigated. Typical irresponsible world view that exists for them...

The work ethic which made America great has been lost, it was surplanted by the notion that each was deserving according to their needs whether they produced or not. Sound familiar, then try that obscure Motor Company in Wisconsin. Unions are partially to blame, originally they benefitted the workers by advocating better wages and conditions, but then they coddled the nonproducers at exhorbitant wages scales which eventuall broke the employers. The bailouts benefitted the unions' squandered pension funds and not the employing companies. The void was filled by persons accepting lesser wages and not being exposed as illegal aliens. Employers turned a blind eye and now the consequences are rearing a very ugly head. All of this is made worse by the media and many protestors not distinguishing between legal and illegal immigrants, a scare tactic of the left, insulting the families who did things legally, to wit: My grandfather, lately coming from Germany married my grandmother in 1889 but did not become a citizen until 1899, the certificate of marraige and the naturalization document hang framed on my wall, they were patient. It is obvious that many protestors do not realize that their jobs might be in jeopardy, then what will they do?

And here are the same morons who believe those same employers should supply:
    1. Mandatory Vacation Leave
    2. Mandatory Sick Leave
    3. Mandatory Maternity/Paternity Leave
    4. Mandatory Health Insurance
    5. Mandatory $15 Minimum Wage

    The mind boggles...

Its probably illegal to fire them, but when it comes to replacing them with robots, I would accelerate the incorporation of robots.

Actually, I think it was in the article, as only in the right to work states (very few) do you have to go through hoops to fire any one. Most states still allow you to fire people with no warning or reason, as long as it is clearly stated in the HR manual.
