More proof that government is not worth trusting, and may get you killed with their foolishness. They just "patched" the cracks? Hello, why do you think there were cracks to begin with? I also saw another article where a geologist pointed to the fact that there was a different rock type where it collapsed, and that the fundamental rock is great for the dam, but the different rock was a weak point, and any leakage would erode it faster than the rest. Seems reasonable to me "but we may never know what caused it". Really....

I really hope we non-Californians don't wind up bailing out (literally) the state that created this problem. We have much better uses for our tax dollars.

CBJ, I can not believe you would not be willing to support the poor people of Kalifornia, in recovering from this disaster. Never mind there is a good case for saying they should have known about this possibility from the get go (the geologist who wrote a report explaining exactly what happened has had that report removed, as far as I can tell, I'm hoping to find it again), but their slipshod repair effort was probably the result of republican cuts to their budget. You know they never have enough funding to do all the good work they need to do their, AND take care of all the poor. Jerry Moonbeam was complaining a few weeks ago how hard it is to build affordable housing....probably harder to build affordable (and functional) dams....And yes, I have no doubt they will try to find some way to make all the western states cough up donations for their poor state, since they are almost bankrupt. anyways.... :)
