California SB18 Conversation

So, this law is the California Children's Bill of Rights. I have mentioned it here once before and I'm sure it will be signed. Yesterday I had a conversation with an aide at my Assembly member's office. I volunteered nothing at first and what came out of this guy's mouth had me literally shaking after the conversation. He said the government should play a role in the raising of children for the betterment of society. He called this a "mommy law". I had him repeat that a few times to make sure I was hearing correctly. At the Capitol they are calling these laws "mommy laws" as they are intended to play the role of real parenting. He volunteered that the author drafted the law in order to make sure that every child gets forced vaccination, including those who escaped his last law (those with medical issues and homeschoolers). I know that many fixate on the vaccination facet, but in my opinion this is much bigger than that.

I let him go on for a while. Then, I informed him that I was asked by a few families I know to reach out to their office. I said, "It's important for (Assembly member's name) to know that this group of families will leave California if this bill passes." He literally gasped in shock when I said this. We are, though. I'm going to sell my business, I've decided.

Looking at Nevada. May also look at Idaho and Utah. I have some family in the Reno area. It's nice over there. Always liked the high desert.

Yep. My mom used to be a sailing cruiser. She knew several families who were living on sailboats and home (or boat) schooling their kids. She said the kids were happy and doing well...

Good luck with whatever you do.

Congratulations on your decision. I'm sure it was a very tough one. As one mired in "California East" (Illinois) I cannot in good conscience suggest you re-locate here.
I'm thinking the secession of California is looking better and better -- of course, I want Illinois to secede from Chicago.

I could only wish for an earthquake just as the Bill is being introduced, but somehow I don't think even that would induce but a short pause in their ideological quest.

I applaud you for speaking with your feet on this matter.

I left the PDRC over two years ago and have been happy with my decision. Utah (outside of SLC) is much more libertarian minded than California.

Jan and I just read it. It doesn't seem to have any enforcement until they do the subsequent legislation. Are you under the impression that the declaration of rights will immediately allow agencies such as Child Services to take implementation actions without further legislation?

I have only two things to post:

    Hitler Youth
    Komosol.

Laws like this have consequences like that.

And anyway, pragmatically speaking, if your child is vaccinated, why worry about some else's child?
    The vile consequences of do-gooderism.

I understand. So few listen, even fewer understand. I agree with your conclusions, Abaco. Time to move to Abaco (or Belize or Costa Rica or Mars or Atlantis.)

They've been coming for the kids for quite some time now and I've been running around pointing it out. But, nobody gives a shit anymore. It's like that old saying about two wolves and a sheep voting for what's for lunch. But, in this conflict is bare bones liberty. If they can interfere with the parent/child relationship on the terms in this bill (severely vague) we are all nothing more than livestock. What's left? What's sacred? Nothing. That's what.

First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Socialist.

Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Trade Unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

So I left the dictatorship they had created in what was once a paradise of liberty.
