An intersting read and a study in just how information gets suppressed when it is "not good". Having done the same thing on both diesel and nuclear submarines, it is most probably true and was just an example of how difficult it can be to detect one. The military trets it as some really bad thing, but is just the nay=ture of all the various systems being used, and how they may not be as great as they think. We rarely got detected by surface sonars, usually it was the P3 or helicopters that did us in, and that was 20 years ago.
