"He turned and answered, 'I will stop the motor of the world.' Then he walked out."
"'I will put an end to this, once and for all,' he said. His voice was clear and without feeling. That was all he said and started to walk out. He walked down the length of the place, in the white light, not hurrying and not noticing any of us. Nobody moved to stop him. Gerald Starnes cried suddenly after him, 'How?' He turned and answered, 'I will stop the motor of the world.' Then he walked out." - Jeff Allen, Atlas Shrugged

But if they survive, they cannot help but come to the same conclusions Rearden begins to come to after he pours the first heat of Rearden Metal: "They [his family] professed to love him for some unknown reason and they ignored all the things for which he could wish to be loved." -AS -- the conclusions to which every striker comes. The ability, dedication, just plain WORK of producing successfully and honestly [is that possible any more?] are the same qualities which will -must - lead to a shrug. or self-destruction.| Permalink
