Your Points on this Board

1. You get a point for each Submission. It can be an article you write for this site (limit 5000 characters including spaces), without a link. The Submission could be a link to another site without comment. You can link and comment both, also, of course.

2. If you comment on another post, then you get a point for the Comment. Whether your comment is short or long, insightful or whimsical, the tally is still one point.

3. If someone else likes one of your Submissions or Comments and they give you a Thumbs Up, then you gain a point. Thumbs Down is a subtrahend. When people like each other's quips they support each other with Thumbs Up. Thumbs Downs are also freely given on the same basis.

4. If you send a private message to another member, you get a point.

yes, there are thumbs up for "quips" and "well saids." Having fun in here and not always taking everything so seriously I think distinguishes the site. Sometimes I forget (and others too) to thumbs up a post even though I am clearly enjoying commenting within it. It's one thing to keep in mind.

I distinctly remember seeing a -1 on at least one thread. I'm sort of surprised it wasn't one of mine :).

New rule...when ever you say the word "feelings" you have to chase it with 'ohhhhh whoa-whoa-whoa-whoa".

Yes I'll keep my eyes open for one, maybe if I'm actually looking I'll prove myself wrong. I do agree people seldom thumbs down anything, I was mostly looking at the thumbs up on comments that don't contribute to a conversation but agree with the speakers point.

I see most points as given on an agreement/ disagreement basis rather than an this is a worth discussing basis. But I don't know what people think when they click so it's of no consequence.

I disagree with #3. People rarely give a thumbs down. Just doesn't happen that much. Usually, when it does, it's because the poster was attacking someone personally or clearly not interested in furthering a discussion.
Thumbs Up: Generally, people give a thumbs up when a post or comment is appreciated and/or adds to the discussion.
    4. I did not know one got a point for private messaging. Huh.
