Students at Wichita Elementary School Are Greeted By A Wall Encompassing Bullitan Board of the Five Pillars Of Islam

Apparently, this magnet school studies the "5 Religions of the World" as part of its curriculum. This year, on the first day, the students were greeted with Islam. Even in a magnet school, the foundations of study should be reading, math, science, logic, and History. An elementary school with children from many religious and cultural backgrounds is not the appropriate place for teaching religion-nor do I think most teachers would be qualified in the first place. Big Fail.
Note the stock picture and lack of photo that went viral.

If the school is not a parochial school where the parents choose religious teaching, it should be left to parents.
They claim they are not endorsing, but this is ripe for abuse and misinterpretation...

I have a history class in high school which talked about the original of several religions and Islam was one of them. However the age group was older and it was all done in a very educational way and we covered several. I found the information to be beneficial and in no way leaning one way or another.

However a display like this in an Elementary school I think is wrong and any religious information should not be dispersed in school at this level when kids are very vulnerable to impression.

They should avoid this to avoid making it look like they're endorsing (trying to "establish") a religion. Students should learn about world religions without things that appear to promote it.

    Almost.

They could have named the 5 pillars of Islam, for the students:

    1) Pan Am 103
    2) USS Cole
    3) NYC 9/11
    4) Boston marathon
    5) Benghazi

Thank you. Seriously if I walked down our hallway and saw that I'd scream. (Right before I quit.) Actually, maybe the person who made it figured it should look like hell...and rightfully so. Mission accomplished.

Here is the picture. I'm looking at this bulletin board and picking it apart... either the pillars should be in a row, evenly, or they should be made different sizes to give them depth, but someone took a short cut and cut them out in layers to save time. Also, Orange as the background? Really? I would have gone dark blue and yellow pillars. (Just kidding. I wouldn't have touched this project with a ten foot pole.) And why can't butcher paper be wider, or bulletin boards made narrower so there isn't always that annoying seam in the paper where it has to be overlapped to get the board covered. I'll just say it. Bulletin boards are a pain in the ass. If you're a parent volunteer, now you know why the teacher always asks you to do the bulletin boards. :)
