    As you can see, they do not even recognize it as fantasy. If you have the time, I highly recommend _THE FUTURE AND ITS ENEMIES_ by Virginia Postrel.

    I don't get the fantasy of lights winking out. It's like the fantasy of Utnapishtim's family watching safely as the evils of the world are destroyed by flood and then being granted immortality. Gilgamesh is the oldest story known; so this fetish has been around for a while.

    I am not saying I don't have similarly weird fetishes, but watching decadence cleansed away in an apocalypse is not one of mine.
