    Well be it as it may about the UN ..The machine its self is a god send ..Having seen on the Pacific cost living in Canada plastic water bottles lining the beaches 20 rows deep in some area ..its a good thing that someone is trying.

      Where do you think all those plastic bottles you have observed on the Canadian coast come from. Fishermen, cruise ships, yachts, floatsom? You said it was a god-send...is that saying the beaches are cleaned up now that the "machine" is in the neighborhood?

      I am encouraged to hear the E-N-ergy Corp. (http://e-n-ergy.com/) has further developed the Japanese machine and is capitalizing on its use in the Yukon. Japan got a lot of mileage out of the UN's project. Time will tell if it adds to our energy independance. Thanks for posting that article in your comment.

      I don't know that the village/town in Africa where the UN gave the kids a demonstration could ever afford one. That being said, I am all for recycling.

      A point of interest: Unlike Canada, US and Europe, most third world and underdeveloped countries have very little trash strewn on their roads and alleys since the recycling boom. Glass bottles, plastic bottles, cans and paper have value, and are collected by kids and folks who can convert them to cash at recycling centers. We have separated our trash for years into 3 barrels for trash pick-up. Doesn't everyone these days?

        No the beaches have been cleaned up a lot better then they were a year ago so Im told but like you said in Victoria B.C Plastic bottles cans and paper have a value..wish it was mandatory that all provinces paid money for those items ...but that machine isn't in my neighbourhood lol its about 2000 miles away.Id like to say ive seen a lot of other great plans for recycling as I was surfing the net this one just made it look so compact that's what got me ..imagine those in a school hooked up to a genset you could run the school power for free..

    When the UN takes on a project, the US pays for it, directly or indirectly. It's a nice machine, compact with a single purpose: a dedicated plastic recycler. What is the point? To teach kids in developing countries that recycling is good? I am sure the kids enjoyed it.

    It's hard to find fault with this invention, if it is being presented fairly. Since we don't have any alternative views, such as energy costs to do this, we can only speculate.

    As it stands...cool technology!

    Never trust the U.N. I don't have any problems with the tech, and I imagine Japan will start using this on as large a scale possible due to the aftermath of the earthquake and tsunami. He didn't mention if it's cost effective though, or how much energy it takes to return the plastic to oil, and what about the rest of the byproducts? I want to see more before. The fact the U.N. is involved makes me very suspicious.

    First off, I do not trust the UN. Second, I do not believe the consensus science behind the global warming scare - its bogus. But I have to give props to this guy if what they filmed is true. While I believe the Earth is much more resilient than man give it credit I cannot see anything wrong with recycling for recycling's sake. I do detest garbage dunes.

      Actually, I think that in 50 years or so, people will be fighting over those landfills. There's lotsa good stuff down there...

      Absolutely NOT, under any circumstance. The U.N. is a creation by the communists of the day. Did you know the UN Charter violates our Constitution in 15 ways? I could go on, but will not hijack the post. Bottom Line: don't trust anything from the UN.

        They also helped craft our school's new "Common Core Curriculum". Decisions that are supposed to be up to individuals in each State are now being decided by the UN. WTF? (And instead of State's taking a stand, they let it roll in because otherwise the Fed will withhold funding... I don't know who's more corrupt at this point. The States, the Fed, or the UN... or us...)
